How long does it take for cats' fur to grow back?

Over the summer (June-July), Possum pulled out a huge patch of fur on his belly, and it seems to be growing really, really slowly. Right now it's longish fuzz. Is this normal?

I don't think he's still pulling this particular patch of fur anymore because it never looks red or irritated.

It will probably look more normal by spring. I think in the fall/winter, fur grows slower. That's why cats are usually spayed in spring so by summer the fur has grown back

I dont know how fast it grows really, I think she's right saying it grows slowly in winter months and faster in spring and summer! My cats seem to get *poofy* during the summer and not so much in winter! BooBoo had some fur removed in august and now you cant even tell he lost it!

Well, then I'm not sure that something's not wrong. Like I said, Possum's fur was pulled out in June and July. Maybe I should call my vet.

It can take fur longer to grow back in when the area's been really irritated.. I know when one of the dogs had a really bad bout of allergies that led to chewing bald patches for awhile it took twice as long to grow back in as usual, if not longer.. but it certainly wouldn't hurt to talk to the vet about it to be sure.

hm. yea, might want to check with the vet to be sure but when Bea had her abcess they shaved her side. I think that was back in July and it didn't fully grow back until around October
