I've mentioned the Grabat before. She technically belongs to John's dad but she lives with John and I and our other animals. John's dad doesn't want Grabat upstairs with him because his dog doesn't like her. She's lived with us down here since January. I'm told that she is 6-7 years old but no one remembers exactly.

Since I first met her, she's been somewhat affectionate (would lean into petting and scratching but would not seek it out) but just very grumpy. She never wanted to play and she despised the other cats and dogs. None of them could come near her without her hissing, growling and swatting. She just pretty much laid around and slept all day. We tried re-introducing all the cats to her slowly and tried the vanilla but it didn't work. There were no fights, she just didn't like them. They respected her space.

Two weeks ago, we bought collars and tags for all of the cats. We bought one for Grabat as well. There was an immediate change in her behavior. She started running around and playing, and acting like a kitten. She plays and wrestles with the other cats now, plays with toys, and comes looking for snuggles all the time. She's a sweetheart. It seems strange that it happened literally as soon as we put her collar and tag on her.

John says maybe the collar and tag made her feel pretty, or made her feel like she belonged. I have no idea if that's true but I think it's pretty strange and wanted to post about it. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Wow... really strange. Maybe she had a collar and a tag in her former home/existence?? And she remembered? Anyway, count your blessings!

From what I'm told, she was born under this house to a feral mom. Grabat kept running inside the house every time the door was opened, and eventually got to stay. John tells me she's never seen a collar before in her life, so I really have no clue!

truly strange! My older cat has recently started to play again. She will start playing like she did when she was a kitten. I just enjoy it. I would suggest the same to you.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
That is really weird!

All our kitties are feral rescues. When we first tried to put on a collar, they all acted like they were being strangled, and like the collar had million ton stones on it, and they shook their heads around to get it off, and crawled on the floor like their legs didn't work any more! Needless to say, none of our cats have collars.
