I recently posted about Oliver's stool firming up. We went to the vet and did not find any worms or abnormalities in his stool. He went on antibiotics, ate special food, and was doing 100% better.

It's been two weeks and we are back to square one. His stool is loose and smelly and he has bad gas. He's been eating the same food for over a month now, and we monitor his feeding to make sure he doesn't eat the other cat's food. He's eating ByNature dry kitten food, but he can't even handle that. I thought that this food would help because it doesn't have any of the normal allergens. Before visiting the vet, I also tried adding pumpkin to his food, but that didn't help either.

When he was on the prescription wet food from the vet, he seemed to digest that very well. So the next avenue I am going to take in trying to firm up his stool is buying him sensitive stomach/easy to digest food.

Does anyone have suggestions on high quality food of this sort that is VERY gentle on the stomach? If it's not available in Petsmart or Petco, where can I get it? Thanks!

Can you go to the vet and buy the presciption food he was on that worked?? I always get my food from the vet, a little bit more spendy but it saves me money in the long run!! Otherwise maybe you could try some iron, they have that in a vitamin form at the vet

When I first brought Niko home, he had very similar problems that Oliver had. He had been on antibiotics, was on a prescription diet for stomach issues (Science Diet i/d), but I wasn't comfortable feeding him that, so I set on my search for a food he would tolerate AND was naturally wholesome.

Upon suggestion from many people on here (namely Sharky, she knows tons about nutrition and helped me tremendously), I would give California Natural in the Chicken and rice variety, a try. They have both wet and dry, both of which have very minimal ingredients. It's actually geared towards pets with allergies to numerous things, according to their website. The PetCo's and PetSmart's around here do not carry it, but they have a location finder on their website (http://www.californianaturalpet.com/). I've found it in places I never thought to look, like a natural feed store and a human health food store.

Niko has done VERY well on this. His coat is shiny, his stools are firm, and he rarely has gas anymore. And he /loves/ the food. He goes nuts for the wet, which I give him twice a day, and free feed him dry. I now use EVO dry, because he can tolerate it and he likes it.. just not the wet.

After I felt he was doing good, I tried another one of Sharky's suggestions, Nutro Natural Choice, which is availible at PetSmart, dunno about PetCo for sure. I tried the Chicken and Turkey platter variety and he loved it, and didn't have any off side effects. I haven't put him on the dry, yet, but he eats them as treats from a sample pack I received. He loves it, and so far, no ill effects.

I will note, though, that we eventually found out that Niko had roundworms, but he was symptom free after I switched his food. He had four fecal tests, all negative, but then one day, I found a worm... so it is possible that he has worms, but nothing's been found yet.

Thanks for the tips, beturtlement and sharky. I had him on Natural Choice from the time I adopted him until about a month ago, and he had all of the same symptoms. So it looks like my next option is California Natural.

Glitch-I think I am going to go back to the vet and get that prescription food to get him on the right track again, but I also need to find a food for everyday use. Any suggestions on that?

Thanks for your help everyone.
