Weird behavior from Junior

OK, as I've reported in a couple threads I brought home a 4mo kitten yesterday, which Junior is not at all pleased about.

Anyway, a few minutes ago and immediately after using the litterbox he dragged his butt across the carpet just inside the doorway for 3-4 inches before cleaning himself. I've never seen him do anything even remotely like this before.

Does anyone think this is related to the new kitten and Junior is somehow marking his territory or did he truly just have an itch that needed scratching?

Man, I really am not sure, but in dogs that is a sign of an impacted anal gland, which then must be expressed by a vet. Perhaps this can also be an issue in cats?
