Hi all! I have been reading this site for a bit and I have to admit it's very informative and it seems the people and the kitties are great! I have owned cats all my life, we had the equivalent of barn cats growing up (along with Greyhounds and rabbits). My husband and I have had two wonderful cats Miles and Pixie for 15 years. Unfortunately our beloved Pixie had to be put down the day after Thanksgiving due to kidney failure, breathing issues, and refusal to eat. Poor Pixie had been living with feline diabetes for a few months, and with all her other sudden health issues they couldn't stabilize her blood sugar which was dangerously low. The vet thought it would be best to let her go.
I have to admit it was so hard to see my baby kitty go. My husband who had never had a pet previous to these guys never realized that the loss of a beloved pet feels similar if not the same as losing a close friend or family member. He decided that he wanted to get another cat right away... I think the quiet of not having Pixie there was driving him nuts. So we picked up a sweet 15-week black kitten who we named Min. Our older cat took only 3 days to become accustom to the kitten, which I was very surprised I thought it would take months of hissing and scratching before they would tolerate each other. Min is very smart, sweet and .... hyperactive lol.
Maybe we forgot how much energy kittens have and though our older kitty Miles gets along with Min, he doesn't really have the energy to play with her. So obviously we decided to get the new kitty a kitty of her own to play with. So last night we picked up a 14-week gray-tiger female kitten from the shelter who was a sweetie, we decided to name her Luna since her gray stripped fur looks silvery. So after one night Min and Luna are currently sleeping together on the couch and have been playing like made creatures all morning. Miles just makes a Mrrrrp noise when he passes by the new kitten, not sure what that means in cat speak but at least it isn't hissy or fighting, but I am sure in a week he will be fine. He really enjoys watching the kittens play, until they get too noisy and he goes into another room. Miles is still the head cat of the house, he gets everything first so he doesn't feel left out. He is still my favorite snuggle kitty. But its so nice to have a lively house again.
