The books are by Lilian Jackson Braun. They really aren't very good mysteries and, come to think of it, they really aren't very well written. But I love the parts about the cats and the way she names people and places. Anybody else picks up the newest in the paperback section?

I've read some of them, but I much prefer the Felidae series by Akif Pirincci, the Joe Grey series by Shirley Rousseau Murphy, and the Mrs. Murphy series by Rita Mae Brown. There's also a Midnight Louie series written by Carole Nelson Douglas that I can take or leave.

Watching the robins sing!
I have been reading Lillian Jackson Braun for 20+ years. And I have to laugh becuase they still use the same photo of her - why, she must be 100 by now! I also like the Rita Mae Brown books!

The newest Cat Who... books aren't my favorites, but I love the older ones! I love the Mrs. Murphy mysteries (Rita Mae Brown) too.

I got her latest, "Cat Deck the Halls", from Amazon today, and of course had to spend the evening reading it.
There's a bit of a surprise at the end. I know I'm hooked on a series when I buy the hardback version, rather than wait for it to appear in paperback.

I've just finished reading a new cat mystery from my library - Mew is for Murder by Clea Simon. It was a good story, but a little heavy on the music/club scene stuff, and I thought the main character should have kept her mouth shut on more than one occasion, but the cats in it were really good.

and BOY is she getting it for that! Amazon.com has a place to sort of rate the authors and there is a theme called lets all flood the author and so many people are dissing her for the last few books - but especially the last.

She has been ill and I guess she wanted to end the series but what a terrible way.

I read that. It was okay, but I definitely agree with your assessment. I've just finished "Puss 'n Cahoots", another Mrs. Murphy mystery:http://www.amazon.com/Puss-n-Cahoots...2166065&sr=8-1

I have read and own several of the Cat who novels
Personally I think it takes awhile of reading to get to any of the interesting parts. but once you get past all the beginning they are ok
other than that I love em!

I'm totally hooked on the Midnight Louie and Cat Who . . . series, and I always enjoy the Mrs. Murphy mysteries, too. I'll have to check out the Joe Grey and Felidae mysteries . . . what's the first one in each series so I can start there?
