i'm not sure where else this could go, but this is my question.

petco is having their "pictures with santa" event this weekend and i wanted to take my cat, but i have noticed that she often clings to people when they pick her up or if the person she is sitting on moves she clings on real tight. any advice about pictures with santa? or any stories? or something that will help with my decision on whether or no ti should do it. i really dont want to hurt the person in that santa suit if she clings onto them.

Not sure, it really depends on how social your cat is. Mine would be terrified in that sort of situation - strangers, strange place and smells, and other animals. And the main fact that my cats hate dogs.

It might be safer if you dressed up like santa and had someone take the picture of you holding her.

If the Santa is there on purpose for pix with animals, trust me he'll be well padded to begin with :-), otherwise, who knows, he may even be allergic and not want to hold a cat at all.

I don't think any of my cats would do well in a strange place with a strange person dressed in a red suit.

I very much doubt a person applying for a pet Santa would do so if they were allergic to cats or any animal for that matter.

That's my point - he would be a people Santa at most, and therefore she shouldn't be trying to take her cat to him in the first place.

I did it yesterday (the actual pics not taking the cats)

We had a line up of dogs most of the time so that will be a factor.

Santa isn't as well padded as you would think and did get nipped at but took it well.

Most people took dogs not cats, although we did have a bunny who was very well behaved.

I would say think how they react to a vet visit and that is a good indicator on whether they can cope with the santa visit.

Oh and they don't 'apply' to be santa.

Petco and Petsmart run a program where the shelters and other partners sign up, the store supplies the cameras etc and the shelter provides the volunteers including santa.

Most of them are the SOs of shelter workers who got roped into helping

I would never do it with my cats. They are not social, and I can only imagine what disaster taking photos with Santa would turn out to be. Me running after freaked out cat with all the dogs barking is not my idea of fun.
I don't think cat would get any enjoyment out of it even if cat was social. Maybe only if cat was really dog like, but mine aren't.
