I was at my parent's house earlier and I noticed my dog had lost a drastic amount of weight. Not to the point where I had to worry cuz he was getting a bit fluffy for a while there. My mom said it was from this new diet he is on which consists of tuna mixed with veggies. My dad on the other hand seems to think he could have a worm. He is the only animal at their house and he is always in the back yard. How does an animal contract worms and is it even a possibility for a dog such as him?

It's definitely possible. Especially if he has had fleas, he could very well have tapeworms. He should definitely go to the vet for a check up and the vet will do a check for worms.

As far as I know we've never had a flea issue. But I'll let my parents know to prolly schedule a check up for him then. Just in case.

When you schedule the vet appt. collect a stool sample to be analyzed.

Getting skinny could be worms, a diet, could be another health issue, though, too.

Is he eating strictly tuna & veggies?

Ya because he is so allergic to everything he had to be put on the special diet.

Are they supplementing?

Weight loss could be caused by an incomplete diet....

TUNA is NOT a good meat for a dog... and any cooked diet needs some grain ... there are lots that are nt likely to cause allergies...

Don't know where that "diet" came from, but IMO its NOT a good thing for a dog to be eating. They can pick up worms from outside; fleas would cause tapeworms.

IMO the dog needs to go to a vet to be checked out and put on a proper reducing diet!
