Susan, if you find I've started this thread in the wrong forum, please move it to the, IYO, appropriate one!

I just got a generous cash bonus from my employer, because I've been working at our school for 25 years, but the bonus came with the caveat "Spend it on something you want, not what you need!". A lot of stores have camcorders on sale right now, and you can't miss the ads. I certainly don't need one, and don't actually use the two digicams I have as much as I should. However, I'm tempted to buy a fairly simple camcorder, which I'd probably use to record Jamie Cat's rather camera-shy actions.

Should I, or shouldn't I?

He'll probably be uncooperative. He doesn't like to be photographed, and is thus "Daddy's cat" all the way! I'm nevertheless tempted to try out a camcorder.

With all of the strange animal antics that happen in your life...
you will never run out of things to record Tricia.

By the time you get the camcorder ready to record, Jamie will probably quit doing whatever it was she was doing you wanted to record in the first place.

I wouldn't keep it in the box, but I'm sure Jamie will decide to be boring whenever I have the camcorder ready.
I've been reading reviews of camcorders, and JVC has a model that a lot of people recommend for beginners, and which is very reasonably priced. It has a 28x optical zoom, and uses SD cards. I have a premium account with Photobucket, so it shouldn't be too difficult to share any videos I make. One chain has it on sale for €149 ($218) this week.

I love seeing pics of kitties, but when someone posts a video, you really get to see the kitty almost like you can see them live.

My vote, get the camcorder and dont forget the equipment that allows you to get it from the camera to the PC.

I think I can scratch this idea. Our niece and nephew came over today to return some books, and borrow new ones (I need a sign saying "Aunt Trish's Library"), and I asked our niece to bring her camcorder, so that I could try it out under her guidance. Jamie was absolutely terrified of it, and ran and hid every time it was turned on. Since I was
planning on getting a very basic model, and our niece's is an expensive one, I assume that the one I have my eye on will be louder, and thus scarier.

The videos I made of the kids were even worse than my photos, too, upholding my reputation as the family's worst photographer.

Tricia...is there a good camera store in your area where the sale people really know video cameras?
Here is the US, sometimes they have cameras for rent.
That can be an inexpensive why to find out if you enjoy using one.
Some even offer basic classes.
I really do hate to see you give up...
There is more to film than Jamie.

Cows, horses, mice, clouds, traffic ...
