In order for a person to be truly tolerant, and to think for the least little bit that someone with a different viewpoint might be just a little bit right, is the same thing to them as admitting that they themselves might be just a little bit wrong; and a lot of people can't deal with that personally as far as religion is concerned.
:
I think I am pretty tolerant but is not at all that I think I am wrong per say, or that I am fearful, it is that I see a little bit of many beliefs in many religions. More so I am open myself, I LOVE learning about others, what they believe, why they believe, just everything. I ask alot of questions. I have figured out what works for me and what makes me comfortable at this time, but I am always open to learn more, as there is something to be learned from everyone in my eyes.

I see good in many belief systems, in many religions, in many types of spirituality (not the same as religion) I am actually glad people can have a place to debate, it challenges their beliefs, helps them look inside, and helps others think. And I believe there is much more to a person that just one perspective in a small part of their life, as it can vary so much person to person.

I think actions speak louder than words and sometimes what people don't say, says the most of all in the big picture. I never get too involved or too personally invested in internet debates that my feelings get hurt (you can take that concept from the Four Agreements book, more New Age than anything else, neat book). Dragoriana don't get your feelings hurt!!!! Keep sharing and don't feel bad about it!

Plenty of them. Everyone was against the Baptist minister that protests at miliatary funerals, the threads about China, I could go on and on.

IMO is for debate. To tell you the truth I think everyone stays pretty civil.
I don't see people attacking people. Passionately disagreeing, but that isn't attacking. :
Well put.

Threads where everyone agrees tend to die out fast because people come on IMO to debate. When there's no disagreement there's nothing to debate.

I've had my feelings hurt several times. I put myself out there then I'm sorry. I always come back for more because I love to read other people's viewpoints and ideas.

Exactly!

True, but there are also some threads that have occurred where people are just beating a dead horse (please excuse the pun to all animal rights).

Then there are also threads that I have left because the main reason for the OP or some of the other members was to simply impose upon you their belief (I'm not just talking religion ) and they continue to argue with anyone that even slightly sways in the opposite direction of their belief.

Then it just winds up beating a dead horse again...

It's a valid observation and complaint in the OP, but I think that the OP itself is in the mold of what it's complaining about.

The refreshing thing I find about this forum is that religion threads (and controversial threads in general) ARE allowed to flourish. Many other forums would quash them. I think expressing disagreement is a good thing (provided it's done politely and respectfully) and no one should be afraid of it. Everyone can choose to participate or not.

I agree with you. Look at the heated threads. Read the first two pages of any of the BIG threads and they keep repeating thereafter, it's all the same. Each side stating their position and nobody reading what anyone else is writing. It's not a dialogue, it's just back and forth, restating of positions.
We are such a small group, think about how it is on a large scale, globally. It's made me realize how hard it will be to ever see world peace.

Well, that is, I expect to be, once I get home to my fast connection and can watch it properly!
