Hi,
My Aunt's male cat "Tiger" 3 1/2 yrs old came down with a UTI one week
ago-last Thurs. She phoned me and described frequent vists to Litter.
She made a quick appt. to vet and got in one hour and brought him home after
he rec'd a antibiotic shot and meds to go. Besides frequent visits
to litter, he also has blood in Urine. Next day he seemed worse
took him back and this time he stayed for 3 days at vets he needed
fluids, more anitobiotic shots. Brought him home on Monday. Yesterday
Wednesday he was throwing up, so she took back to vets and
now they did Xray and confirmed he something like 4 kidney stones.
They kept him again at vets and said they would try to disolve them
or he may need surgery, call back Friday.
Can someone advise what is up for now, she is pretty poor with a total
for 2 cats and 2 dogs. Should she expect surgery? More troubles with
continuing stones & UTI's. Will he be on prescription food for the rest his life?
What questions do we ask vet at this time?
Thanks, Brenda

His case he likely will need a RX for life unless it was a infection that caused the stones...

does the cat eat wet food???

does the kitty eat a quality food?? you know many arent expensive

This kitty only eats "junk" dry friskies/
purple bag
and only licks juice wet food off.
She free feeds, which I am against
myself.
So its going to be a "big" change
for him.
I am going to try insist and I'm sure
vet will that this one & her female
kitty eat wet even
if she buys friskies wet and very little dry
plus a better UTI dry if any at all.
I am using the Nutro roasted chicken UTI
friendly which
by the way I gave her some, and her
cats love it. She is using it as treats.
I hope I get to talk to vet and see
what I can learn. I will try
to tell my Aunt better to spend a few
extra dollars on food per week then have
nasty big vet bills!!

Well its confirmed. Tiger will require surgery; cost approx
600.00 the stones are several around five in a ball, single
area. Unfortunately the
vet surgeon is out of town till Thursday and she has elected
to keep him at vets so they can keep up pain meds, special food
etc in him in meantime, even though they
said he could come home in meantime.
I will gie my aunt the bag Max roasted chicken containing the UTI
approved food and see
if vet approves if I cant make the visit myself.
I really think she should also give her female cat the same thing
before something bad happens.
