What are your favorite holiday songs?

My absolute favorite is the Carol of the Bells by the Transiberian Orchestra. I love the mix of a classic song to rock and roll. I also like the classical version too.

"Silent Night".
There's also a version of "Canon in D" I believe it's also done by the Transiberian Orchestra it's called "Christmas Canon".

Both of those songs bring tears to my eyes.

I know you didn't ask
but my Husbands favorite is a song done by David Bowie and Bing Crosby...it's "The little Drummer Boy" and another song done together.

That is a very good song. I also like plain old Little Drummer Boy.

My two favorite carols have always been O Holy Night and Hark the Herald Angels Sings.

However I have been known to burst into a rendition of Winter Wonderland while decorating the Christmas tree that I believe quite frankly scares the cats.

Awake Ye Scary Great Olde Ones, by the HPLHS Historical Society
Here's a sample to listen to: http://www.cthulhulives.org/Solstice...wakesample.mp3

"Awake Ye Scary Great Olde Ones, let everything dismay.
Remembert Great Cthulhu shall rise up from R'lyeh
To kill us all with Tentacles if we should go his way.

Oh tidings of madness and woe,
Madness and woe,
Oh tidings of madness and woe...."

We do listen to traditional songs too, but we love our Very Scary Solstice CD.

Singing in choirs, I've come to love so much wonderful Christmas music -- O Holy Night is magical, especially when you're singing with a few hundred other voices, and I love Carol of the Bells, too... and Angels We Have Heard On High is fun with all the harmonies in the glorias... and there's a little-known choral piece called Carol From An Irish Cabin that's very simple and almost eerie, a beautiful song...

But my all-time favorite is always Silent Night, especially in the original German. I count it as one of the most beautiful melodies ever written... and I have a precious memory of hearing it sung and played by an old German man with a guitar, who climbed up and down the stairwells of our Stuttgart apartment building one Christmas Eve, caroling for all the Army families when I was very small.

I love 'O Holy Night'. Seems like I don't hear it very often maybe because it is difficult to sing right. Another one I really like is one with the phrase 'do you hear what I hear' in it. I don't even know the correct name for it. It's another one I don't seem to hear very often.

My favourite is O Holy Night.

Also not a song but I am always particularly fond of Tchaikovsky's Nut Cracker suite at this time of the year.

then, "Grandma got ran over by a reindeer" too

My fave all time Christmas song:

I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door, that's the easy thing to do

I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage
I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!

Definitely Nat Kind Cole's "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire)

Second is Bing Crosby's "Melekiki Maka" (or however you spell the Hawiian Christmas song)

Third is non Christmas: Adam Sandler's Chanukkah Song.

I've been enjoying the Trans Siberian Orchestra and Manheim Steamroller Christmas music too!

My favorite Christmas song is "Carol of The Bells", both the vocal version and the instrumental version. The prettiest version I've ever heard was at a local church's Christmas show, when the Hand Bell Choir did "Carol of The Bells."

Marilyn never recorded "Santa Baby". The version you are hearing is Cynthia Basinet. Found her on iTunes.

I like Randy Travis Christmas cd "An Old Town Christmas" only becase we bought it while living in Germany. I listen to it mainly for the memories.

Celtic Woman Christmas cd is also very nice along with Amy Grant's.
