Brooke was 19, would have been 20 in two months. I had the doctor put her to sleep today. She wasnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t eating, just drinking large amounts of water. She had lost a lot of weight over the last month. All she did was sleep (restlessly usually) and drink water. Of course, I am feeling the grief, some guilt; I guess Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m even humanizing things to the point where Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m thinking if Brooke blames me. 19 years is half my life. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m embarrassed to admit that this man is weeping typing this out.

I adopted “Brookie†while in college; she was a part of an orphaned litter. She now joins Sheba, my beloved cat I had to put down three years ago. I picture them playing together even as I type this. Maybe Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m crazy, but I believe that.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, Dale.

I too lost a 19 ( two days shy of 20 ) year old cat eight years ago.
I was just a little girl when I got Maggie, so I grew up with her.

I know how you feel, because I doubted myself too and wondered if Maggie blamed me or if there was something more that could have been done.
I talked to my Vet and he assured me that Maggie lived a very long, very happy life and that if she could talk she would have told me that I did the right thing and the most loving thing I could do by letting her go.

You must believe the same of Brooke.
She KNEW that you loved her and she doesn't blame you at all and as my Vet told me, you showed her that love by letting her go.
She's pain free, happy and healthy now and playing with Sheba and all the other TCS kitties that have gone to the bridge before her.

Rest In Peace, Brooke and look up my Maggie.
Maybe you two old "Grandma" kitties can hang out together.

Dale, I'm so very sorry for your loss. I know how hard that decision is to make, but Brooke doesn't blame you for it. She loves you and knows that you loved her enough to give her peace.

Rest in peace, sweet Brooke

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sending sympathetic prayers to you.

I lost a 19 year old cat thirteen years ago and I still think of her.

I remember sobbing when they injected her and apologizing to her, "I'm so sorry, but this is the only way to end the pain."

I'm sure she understood and that Brooke did too.

Im sorry about the loss of you baby... Nothing I can say can take away the pain you must feel right now. Im sure she was thanking you the whole time because she knew you were doing what was best for her, as you always have. Dont blame yourself. You gave her the greatest give of all, peace.
Let us know how you're doing, K?

I believe that too.

Your kitty did live a long and happy life. You did the right thing whether you want to believe it or not. I used to ask myself that about my dog being pts. Both of our animals are much happier now than in their last few weeks/months. Please find peace in that.

It seems that the longer one has a pet the more it hurts to let them go. So sorry that Brooke had to leave you after 19 years of being your best pal.
