My little black beauty, Velvet is asleep in my arms as i type!
She is the biggest sweetheart, and such a wonderful kitty!

And the thing about the black cats/dogs being the last to go at shelters- most of the time that's pretty accurate, at least at the one i work for. We try doing cute things to make them more noticable to people, like putting cute collars on them, being careful not to put several black animals in cages side by side (they all blend in - we try to mix them around the others so they stand out), giving them cute names....it all helps

Nuit was the one cat I actually went out of my way a little more to get cuz she was black, a fat middle aged black cat with an attitude was how it was put to me and no one could handle her she was just about doomed to pts till I came! Then there is Bentley my tux and zoey is black but has a funny white undercoat giving her a smoke look which makes her more "exotic". Any future cats will probably be old & black!!!

and look at this funny face of Nuit

I have a kitty named Mistoflees.

At one point, he was black from his ears to the tip of his tail. He now has white hairs blended into the black (he's 15).

He has to be the NICEST kitty we've ever had. He's mellowed out throughout the years.

I'd adopt another black kitty in a heartbeat.

Because they're BEAUTIFUL! I have 3 right now; I ADORE black cats--so elegant. And there's nothing more lovely than a black Maine Coon (which Smudge is). Look at this pic of Satchmo, from a cattery--Smudge looks just like him!

He's a beauty!

No one would adopt Maverick from the local animal shelter b/c he's black, and he's been one of the most sweetest, loving cats I've ever had!

I've had more black cats than any other, and they've all been big babies. I LOVE black cats!

Maybe we should tell people there that in England, a black cat crossing your path is considered good luck! (Supposedly.)

Yeah, it's true. People go for the "pretty" cats first. My current shelter babies had a brother and sister who got adopted right away - a calico and a brown tabby and white. The others are just .... waiting......

And while they have been waiting, a long haired tortie came... and went....

Sigh.....

I *love* black cats. I know that at the county shelter, they're the first to be euthanized
The shelter I volunteer at is no kill, but we really had to push the black cats this year after Halloween was over. Fortunately, most of them have finally been adopted.

I have two! I have never had one until I rescued my Spookie, and my Mama!
They are simply the smartiest cats I've ever been around! They are so sweet!
The Chinese believe they are good luck! So do I !!!!!!People are just paranoid,
they are stupid, and they sterotype things that they probably know nothing about! Awwww, poor black kitties! Mama

I love black kittys ... when i was a toddler to a teen I played with a feral family of all black cats... they were cats who wanted to live outside but loved me...

I used to tell that to people all the time when I worked in a shelter.

Black cats rock.
I'm going to miss Raven so much.
He keeps me on schedule, tells me what to do, and is one of the sweetest cats ever. He made Mike run a gauntlet of tests when we were dating.
Black cats are such characters, I just love them. It's going to be strange without a black cat in the house. But I'm sure when Raven's gone, another cat in need will find us.

I think everyone should have a black cat.

Black cats are the bomb

I just don't understand how people can still be scared of black cats - Do we still live in the dark ages???

I just adopted a black cat - Bella. She had been in a kill shelter for MONTHS. Her time was almost up, so I swooped in and took her home. She is beautiful and sweet and I love her already.

Adopting a black cat is one of our goals in the future. We have a humane society close to here that has a lot of black cats because everyone wants the 'pretty' ones. Even though black cats are just as pretty!

Wow, I didn't know dogs had the problem too. My cousin has a giant black lab/golden mix and he's the most wonderful dog in the world.

My little black Angel has such a quirky personality! She's such a loving little doll. She even sleeps right next to her meowmy's head at night, every night.

This is Maverick:

As I mentioned previously, no one would adopt him b/c he's black.
He was one of those "second chance" kitties, and was in the local paper as the "pet of the week" when I noticed his pic & bio in the paper. I went to the shelter to look at him (already half in love w/ him by then!) and fell totally in love w/ him when I held him in my arms.
He's the most sweetest, loving cat I've ever had, but no one else wanted him b/c he's black.

But I'm glad!
Because their loss was MY gain!

And this is Geronimo (as a kitten):

No one wanted him, either, b/c he's black, and the peeps at the vet's office called him Lucifer. I'll admit, he's a brat sometimes
but you can tell by looking at the pic that he's a little lover-boy underneath his self-protective facade..
