Our cat, Enya, has been without some of her voice for a few days now. The 2nd day she seemed like she wasn't feeling well and was very quiet and didn't want to play with Blaze. She was that way the latter part of the first day too, just not as much. Today I called to make an appt. for her, but my vet isn't available 'til Monday. So while I was deciding who to take her to she started playing with Blaze. They played for most of 3 hours, running at top speed up and down the stairs, etc. So I thought I'd wait until tomorrow since she is more like her usual self. I thought she was improving yesterday, but she went down again after 5:00 (just like a kid, after the docs office is closed!) It has me puzzled though. There's no runny nose or sneezing or coughing. She's eating and drinking and eliminating. There has been no change in food or litter or anything else in the house. She did vomit the first morning, just clear fluid and only once. When she's sleeping she's drooling some, which she doesn't usually do much that I've noticed. Any thoughts? I may take her in tomorrow to be checked over. Thanks!

I would wonder if something is obstructing her throat? That was my first thought anyway. If you feed her does she lurch her throat up as she swallows? If she does, then she might have swallowed something that is blocking her mouth or throat.

That's a possibility. A few times she has had a bit of a hard time swallowing, but not consistently. She's the one who we have to watch close because she will try to swallow indigestible things. I looked for that when I cleaned up her vomit, but I didn't see anything in it. I wouldn't think that would make her lethargic, though. She has been much better today, staying awake a lot more than yesterday. She's still eating and drinking. She had salmon with us tonight and enjoyed that quite a bit. She's getting more spoiled!

She got over whatever it was, I'm glad to say. I was ready to take her in on the 4th day, but our vet was booked and wouldn't be available 'til Monday. So while I was trying to decide where else to take her, she and Blaze started chasing each other up and down the stairs and around the room and just kept going and going, so I decided not to take her anywhere and she improved more each day. The last couple of days she has gotten back to getting into trouble every chance she gets, so I know she's back.
I told my daughter that maybe she shouldn't let Enya 'nurse' on her fleece blanket any more, in case she was swallowing too many fuzz balls. That has been their morning routine for months. Enya will just knead and nurse on that blanket for all it's worth. I thought she'd outgrow the habit, but not yet.
