Does anyone else have a kitty that LOVES to tear up/shred/chew on paper?

Does anyone know why they do this and what I can do to get him to stop?

Believe me - we try. But I must be underestimating his sneakiness! He pulled several papers out of my son's backpack (which was partially zipped closed) and shredded them.

Thank goodness he has the weekend to re-do them, because I do not know how well the "my cat ate my homework" defense flies these days!

I am so glad Leo does not go for the plastic bags - I would be worried he would suffocate!

He is so sweet and innocent looking when you catch him too!

This is him watching my son pick up the pieces of his homework. I am sure his internal dialogue is something like..."Hey! Watcha doin'? I was playin' with that!"

That is exactly what Handsome Leo was thinking.

For seven years, all mail, books, paperwork, plastic shopping bags and anything plastic that is munchable, must immediately be hidden or shut into a room, until I can secure it in a safe place.... away from Dexter.
He is relentless in his pursuit of paper and plastic.
Of course ingesting paper or plastic is not good for our kitties so being ever vigilant is our only option.

Be a good boy Leo.

The little nut tore apart my shopping list this morning! And currently, I'm sure there are napkins torn and shredded under the couch, as that's where he hides his mess.

Geronimo is a toilet paper/paper towel fanatic. Nothing would stop him from shredding the stuff to bits.
I just gave up and put the TP & PT away somewhere we he couldn't get to them..

He's pretty much out-grown it now, so there IS hope - somewhere down the road!

Your furbaby is just gorgeous, BTW, Pooh! He looks just like my Geronimo!
(of course I would say that!

Well, if it's any consolation, Geronimo will still occasionally make a mess - usually when he's p-o'd at me about something.
I suppose he wants me to still believe that HE'S still the one in charge..
