I must be an oddball...I like winter driving. Well except when there's a bunch of other cars around. Otherwise I love it when I can't come to a complete stop.

Perhaps I need more adventure in my life...

Ugh - snow!! I hear you on the winter driving - for safe driving. (We're likely to get freezing rain this weekend - I am dreading it.)

I'm pretty scared of winter driving. I'm 27, but I got my drivers licence just last summer, not because I wanted to but because I need it in my work. So, I've never driven on snow and ice.

lots of safe vibes headed your way!
Go slow Jen and just be cautious!
I'm such a nervous wreck when it comes to winter driving- it scares the devil out of me! I understand you!
I just try and breath calmly (slow deep breaths- otherwise i'll totally panic), and drive at a safe speed. If someone wants to get snippy- let them pass you.

I slow my speed according to road conditions. Some folks may have a problem with that so let them pass.

I find it interesting that most of the vehicles I've passed that are in the ditch are SUV's - yes - no kidding. I assume the drivers believe that since they have SUV's they are safer at higher speeds.

A couple years ago hubby and I were car-pooling and we had a bad storm. We were driving accordingly (as were the other cars in front and behind us) and this young fellow in his SUV roared past and gave us a dirty look. I smiled when 2 km. further on he was well and truly in the ditch. I waved as we passed. (Nasty I know, but the devil made me do it.) I don't drive like a little old lady by any means, but common sense and road conditions should certainly be taken into consideration during the winter.

I also drive a standard transmission which I find gives me more control on ice and snow.

Thats funny that you mention SUV's in the ditch as I went into the ditch twice driving an SUV!!
The 1st time I hit a patch of black ice and I was in at too much of an angle to drive out and the other time a truck in the lane next too me lost control and I ended up in the ditch to avoid being hit my him (yes he was within inches!!) I was driving too slow I guess and he was trying to pass me.

We have our 1st major snow coming-guess I better plan on getting those new tires on the truck and put some weight in the box soon.

Good advice!
That's what I used to do, too!
And nine times out of ten, you'd find the idiot who just HAD to get past you, in a ditch somewhere down the road!

I didn't mind driving in the snow too much, but I had a 4X4 truck, and was smart enough to take it easy. It was all those other idiots that scared ME!

I hated the ice, though; that DID scare me..

Drive safely, and watch out for the other guy!
