Help! My cat is ruining our hardwood floor!
Some background-- Sneakers had a litterbox on the second floor of the house, but she kept using the bathroom or bathtub on the 1st floor as a litterbox so we decided we'd better get her a second box. We don't have a lot of places where a box would fit on the main floor, so we ended up having to put in in a hidden corner of the dining room...
The problem is she is VERY picky with the box. It is a Littermaid but sometimes it doesn't do the best job of scooping... If the box is not totally clean she will urinate next to the box on the hardwood floor! I've tried a variety of different litterbox mats to protect the floor and also tried a clear plastic floor protector but mostly they either just soaked through or if they were waterproof the urine ran off the side and onto the wood, then soaked in underneath the mat. I just don't know what to do!
I need to find a way to prevent her from continuing this behavior or something that will actually protect the wood!

Has she been checked for urinary infections? Most times peeing problems are UTI related. Have her checked now if not done to eliminate a medical problem.

If she checks out to be free of a UTI, then try Cat Attract litter. Some folks have had some good luck with that.
