By the time we found Lucy Belle's mom, she was already badly decomposed and none of us wanted to see her. The only person who saw her was my friend's dad and he told us that the body was so bloated, he can't really tell how big she was.

Lucy Belle is now 7 weeks old and already weighed in at 2 pounds 1/2 plus. She's steadily gaining weight and I wonder how large can a domestic shorthair gets? Any ideas? I saw a 6 year old female domestic shorthair in Petco the other day and she is HUGE, I mean, like a giant compared to the Siamese in the next cage. She could have easily been in the 15-16lbs range and that is really a sight!

You can never really guess how big they're going to be.. My boy who we got by accident is 12-13lbs and 5 months old.. So who knows! He was about 2lbs at 8 weeks.. Vet said we're looking at a 20-25lb cat when he's full grown.. Fine with me! I'm actually pretty excited because I wanted a hybrid (yeah..I know, I know!) and I was going to go early generation but he can be it!

DSH can be so variable, it's really hard to say! But if she's big for her age now then there's a fair chance that she will be a bigger than average adult.

With purebreds, many longhair breeds tend to be bigger than shorthaired ones - but with moggies really anything can happen!

Poor mum cat, do you know how she died?

Yeah, mum cat died just days after having her kittens. We don't know how she died but our guess is she got trapped in between the pipings down in the basement and could not release herself. I hate to think about it but starvation and dehydration could be the main cause.

Small boned cats would do best at 6-8 lbs when fully grown. Medium boned cats would run 9-12, and large boned cats would be 14+ lbs.

Females are smaller then males in almost every case. She's on track with size/age (usually about a pound per month old). I would guess she will fall in the medium range - so figure a good 9-11 lbs when fully grown. You'll have to go with her body build and muscle tone.
