Well....my husband finally jumped on my rescue/fostering bandwagon!!!! Today he brought home a momma and 3 babies that he rescued from a sewage plant!!!!

I'm not sure how old the kittens are but they are eating solid food and their eyes have not fully changed color yet. They are in bad shape. They have diarreah, worms (bellies are swollen) and some kind of eye infection. One of them has an eye that is swollen shut.

The first thing I need to do though is get rid of their fleas!!! How can I do that safely?

Thanks!

I got a new kitten the other day and gave it a flea bath and then found out your not suppose to do anything but comb them out until they are like 8 weeks old! Apparetly the flea stuff is deadly for kittens or something! I had to watch him after that and I panicked! What I was told was just to comb the fleas out until they are old enough to be treated but there are lots of people that have this subject in better control than I do (apparently huh) Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Well, I just got finished bathing all of the cats with a little bit of Dawn dish soap. Many fleas fell off of them, but not all are gone. I have some Frontline, so when they are dry I will apply some of that. I think they are at least 8 weeks old.

oh if you pick up Revolution from the vets, not only can it be used on kittens under 8 weeks but it also kills fleas, and eggs and prevents them for the month and it deworms (among other things too). It will only deworm for round and hook which is great but you will also need to get tapeworm dewormer from your fvet or from the pet store. If they have fleas they have tapes usually. The pet store sells the same exact thing your vet will give you too for tapeworms.

Good advice. I wouldn't suggest putting any flea medication on your kittens without first consulting a vet. Jen is right - if they have fleas, it is highly likely they also have tapeworm.
