He really is so funny. We called our new cat Lexi because it was a good pair name to go with Links. But my son won't call her Lexi!!! A plant in the living room is always knocked over. I asked him who did it and he says "Dewy did it", so I say "Lexi?" and he replied "Yeah, Dewy."

I don't get it. Is it hard for a child who is nearly three to get the hang of similar names? He says Links fine, and has no problems with his speech at all, except her name. Is he making it different deliberatly so he can tell the two names apart better?

When I was three, I named my grandfather "Mayay." I have no clue why - I was reading and writing at 3 1/2, so it isn't like I was stupid.

Maybe Lexi is really a Dewy, and your son is able to understand that because "Dewy" told him so.

Nice idea, but there is no way I'm calling my sweet Lexi that. It reminds me of David Arquette in Scream!!!

sadie my 4 year old is the same way. He will call Ping well Ping but with Pong he calls her Cong. For whatever reason he can not say the P in Pong but can in Ping.

When my cousin was little she called me Mayme instead of Amy.
Maybe your son just likes the name Dewy.

I'm "Ralph" to one of my little cousins. How Natalie became Ralph, nobody knows!

I can understand some of these because some of the sounding are the same, but how on earth does Lexi become Dewy?

I think it's just something kids do at that age sometimes. My cousin renamed me when we were small. I know he could say my name, but for some unknown reason he changed it. I forget exactly what it was though.
