LOL, the unfortunate consequence of having more "cat" than "box"

(Yes, his box is on the litterbox, it was the ONLY free spot in the house for a cat bed!)

His brother Boo (Rueben) sees the camera and decides he needs to get in on all the fun! (Rueben is about half the size of Willie, but he looks HUGE in the pic!)

What kind of creature is Sammy? I don't think he is a cat. (The pictures are great) Becky

I love chincillas - I saw one at petsmart the other day and its tail was hanging out of the cage, and I had always wanted to know what it felt like. I want one for a pet! Are they playful?

Yup, he's a chinchilla. They're very cool pets! I like to describe them as hyper, bouncy cats (have you ever seen an animal literally bounce off walls?). Not as cuddly though (except Sammy, but I've had him for 5 years, and he really trusts me). They can be very jumpy, but not as much as the books will tell you. The first chinchilla book I read said that they will be scared to death of just about anything, and not to keep it in the same room as a dog. My dog will go over to Sammy's cage and bark-whine (LOL) at him, Sammy returns the favor by biting the dog on the nose! My other chinchillas, Sylvester and Lexi, aren't nearly as friendly as as Sammy. They are super curious of me thoough, so that's a good sign of times to come. I just got both of them. Sylvester will let you pick him up, but doesn't like to be petted. Lexi will climb onto your hand, just as long as you don't move it or try to pet her. Sammy will be getting a girlfriend this weekend! A beautiful 3-4 year old black velvet! (they live as long as a cat, so this is still young)

They bathe in chinchilla dust, some of it is made with ash, sometimes other stuff (ground clay, I've heard). It's to absorb the oils in their fur. They can't take baths in water because they fur is so dense that it WON'T dry! So they can get very sick.

Their fur is SO SOFT! Softer than the softest rabbits. Sometimes you can't even feel their fur when you're petting them.

Dawn

Sammy again
