Has anyone ever had this done, and how did it turn out? Did you get estimates for both new cabinets and refacing, and what was the cost difference (if you don't mind disclosing this)? I'm thinking about getting my 1976, (I think) original to the house cabinets and the ugly, yellow laminate countertops done soon. The actual cabinets are in quite good shape; frankly, even though they aren't top-of-the-line models, I think they're better made than the ones in Lowe's and Home Depot. Also, I can't really change the configuration of the kitchen; and I rather like the way it is, and seem to have enough storage space (I'm a believer in tailoring my junk to fit the existing space, not building more space!). DH would like to get an island, though I prefer to have an eat-in kitchen, like we already have. I like the versatility of being able to push the table to the wall for more floor space, or to move it out when we have parties (or want to have a romantic dinner by the fire; I just move it in the study for this).

Thanks!
