Hi there

Many of you know I'm adopting.. I've annoyed the hell and back out of many people around here.

Many have been telling me I should either get 2 or 4 kitten, not 3, because the 3rd will be left out... is this even true with animals??

It does depend, but yes, I see with trios one is left out. My kitties are segregated because some want to murder the others.

Twitch, Lily, & Damita live upstairs. Damita is always left out. She even eats away from the other two.
Dorian, Ophelia, PJ, & Punky live together. Ophelia has Dory, Punky has PJ. They travel in pairs....Dory gets along with PJ & Punky. Ophelia does not....but she still has Dory. If I did not have Dory, Ophelia would be alone.

It depends on the cats if you ask me. We have three and they get along with each other pretty well, none seem left out. If you get three, just make sure you give them all equal attention, and try to get them all to play with each other not just two playing alone. If you would rather not risk it, i would go with 4 just because i think more is better!

From my experience, it depends completely on the cats involved and their personalities. Sorry, I know that's not a good answer but cat behavior is difficult to predict in these situations. For instance, people told me not to get another female because I already had an adult female - well, I ignored them and brought another female into the home. They bonded within a day (I know, unbelievable!). I have done the female-female thing not once but twice and had zero problems. I don't think it's because I'm good at understanding cats or anything, rather I think it's that my cats happened to have the right personalities for eachother.

Personally I like even amounts of animals in the house (even if its a mix of dog/cat). Ling doesn't really like Charlie but likes the dog better; so we need to get another Ocicat baby brother in the house

I like males better - they tend to accept new cats quicker and easier then females.

Well hear this.

The Bengal breeder replied to my e-mail (I inquired about a possible availaibility to go with Nala) with a LENGHTY (to say the least) response about how a woman who had reserved a small marbled male was fabulating with stories. I'll pass the details, but she seems crazy, and the breeder is absolutely scared to let the little guy go.

She's willing to let him go to me for half what I paid Nala considering she'd rather I have him than her and my financial situation (which isn't terrible, but honestly... they're kittens !) and she won't even have a shred of a doubt that I will take care of both of them.

I was reluctant at bringing a male in the trio, but then I can call him Simba and have 4 Lion King kittens
Plus there is ample room on that cat tree for a little king as well. So I told her I'll think seriously about it, but I think I'll accept. Plus, he comes neutered and had both his vaccines already. I think it's a bargain for me, financially speaking, and at least I know Nala and him could get along in case Kiara and Sarabi don't accept her.

I love them to death already, but Kiara is one little badass... she has a very bad attitude when she sets her mind on something. Daddy's gonna have to break that
I refused to let them sleep with me though, because the gf would freak out. Kiara and Sarabi slept on my computer chair the entire night and waited until I was up and go see them. That's weird isn't ? They were sort of observing me, and when I went to see them, they started acting up, purring like crazy and wanted to play. I was expecting them to wake me up as soon as they deemed it was time for them. Maybe the breeder taught them this?

Anyway, in all likeliness, I'll have a fourth Bengal boy now.

Jesus, before I joined TCS, I was barely considering getting ONE and was so unsure, and now, four.... TCS's influence is powerful. The force is strong with this one huh?

Oh yes the force is powerful!!!

I'm glad he is neutered!! The first thing I thought of was Bengal kittens or Siamese X Bengal kittens!!! That would be wierd?

Anyway, 4 is better than 3, especially with active breeds. And the girls you already have may be too close to allow an intruder when Nala joins.

Hope you accept. Has the breeder sent pitures?

Yes she did... to tempt me further probably

I finally accepted since she genuiely seemed happy that Simba (that's how I named him... how else) would go in good hands rather than the woman who had named her reserved kitten Budweiser. I don't know in the US, but Budweiser is considered here a cheap beer for cheap people who want to get drunk for not much money (hence its reputation) and when the woman admitted this to the breeder, the breeder asked back if she knew this and thought this, why she'd name her kitty like this, and the lady replied it suited him well?
The breeder probably had a "WTH" moment right there.

I'll pick him up with Nala on the 8th.

Oh man I just realised... I'm going to become one of those cat freaks people point their finger at because I have kitten fever?

What a beauty! And yes, this place is powerful. I joined with just one princess. Then got a buddy for her and now we have a new kitten. So we have three. One female and two males. The kitten is a male. The two males tear the place up running after eachother. It's funny. The female just watches. She gets into it sometimes, but she's much more laid back. So I don't think they leave her out...I think she'd rather be out. She probably says, "Those boys are NUTS!"
Most of the time she'd rather snuggle with me than hang with them. So silly.

So yes, it does depend on the personality of the cats, I suppose.

Congratulations on your 4 kitties!

Hahaha. My friends were getting worried about me when I adopted the third and they said, "If you weren't getting married, I'd be worried you were turning into a crazy cat lady." ROFL. Jeez.

Give it a few months and you'll be saying: Hi, meet my 10cats.

(I'm sticking with two, but I can't help but look at the classifieds, my SO doesn't know
)

You're not crazy. I have 13 cats in my life. 11 of those are indoors only, one is indoor/outdoor, and one belongs to John's dad but she lives with us and we take care of her. Of the rest of the cats, eight are under 1 year old! So having 4 is definitely not crazy!!

I wont be able to keep them forever... in 4-5 years my mom will have to babysit for 4-6 weeks a year when I do my residency, she'll probably want to keep one or two of them eventually.

But for now, they're my precious furfriends

I dunno about that. A man who comes into my work almost made me break my no dating rule
He talked about his cats often, not constantly but enough so one would know he loved them. Turns out he wouldn't have been a good match for me, but he was a good guy

I'm so happy you are getting the 4th! It will be nice to have 2 of one breed, 2 of the other. He is beautiful too. I think 4 is a very reasonable number

When I adopted Mattie, it was maybe a week before I started looking at kittens. I adopted Mattie on 10/03/07 and Chloe came home soon after on 11/10/07. I'm just going to have the 2 for now, but when I have a larger house and am more settled I might consider more....I don't know if my SO would go for that though. I think 4 is my max though.

My mother's boyfriend came over today and brought Shelby, his turtoise mixed breed cat. Bad idea !

I have never seen a cat acting so crazy. Kiary had every inch of fur raised up, her claws out and her eyes were terrified. She was so shocked in fact that Kiara and Sarabi started spitting at each other - they weren't playing at all. Probably the scent of another cat made them go crazy, but woah - I hope they wont do this when Nala and Simba arrive.

Granted they have been seperated from the mon only 2 days ago and have been adjusting to a new environment. When Nala and Simba arrive, Kiara and Sarabi will have been settled in my apartment for a goof 2 weeks, so I hope the welcoming wagon will be warmer than spitting and hissing.

Like I said, Kiara is a very badass female...
