Ya, I kinda thought so too! He couldn't really chew it, But he sure tried! (he doesn't have all his teeth) It was nice to see him wanting to eat something other than nursing!

Why thank you! I think he's a doll! He's so lovable! He obviously is still trying to nurse on everything but he doesn't mind his bottle! He sleeps on my chest still and its really sweet. He has the worlds loudest purr and he has made booboo so happy! Its just a nice experience! (well all but not knowing he was so young when I got him, But I'd a got him anyways!

He really doesn't look all that young to me...are you sure he only weighed 1/2 lb when you got him? I would get a kitchen scale to get an accurate weight on him. In thepictures, he looks exactly the same size (at least in comparison to the paper plate) to what my current foster looked like when she came to my house. She was probably about 6 weeks old then. Same little stumpy tail and everything! He's adorable. Orange tabbies are my favorite. Whats his name? Were there siblings at the pet store? I hope they're ok. You should go get them :::ducks and covers:::
Pet stores that sell animals are horrible places. I would go back and see if they'd give you the other kittens, and then turn then into the better business bureau. Good luck with your kitty, he looks like he's going to be ok now!

I think his tail will be normal - it looks like our kittens when they were that age. He's soooooo sweet looking!

I'd guess him about 3 weeks old. If you've got any questions on bottle feeding etc I'm always a PM away. I've had a few bottle babies & will try to help out if I can.

I weighed him at the post office today and he weighed in at 11oz! He's short but his belly looks like its fattning up. Ive been bottle feeding and he really likes that! When I try to get him to drink from a bowl he does this thing where he gets the milk in his nose and then starts gasping!??! I dont know whats up with that! The other kitten in the store was gone last night... I thought about her right after I got the first one! Ohh I hope she made it through the night! I thought EEK was gonna get pnumonia from inhaling the milk!

He's probably just dipping his nose in the milk, which causes him to sneeze.

I don't know if kittens are at all like human babies in this respect, but human babies cannot breathe through their mouth, only their nose. So maybe that's why after getting a little milk in his nose he's having trouble. (little trivia there, LOL.)

And, by the way, when bottle feeding be sure not to give too much at once - when bottle feeding milk bubbles out the nose means it could have gotten in the lungs, and that's bad. But you probably know that since you read that kitten rescue site!

Klutchetta: Yup! Only because your so smart you sent me there! I would have been lost without you! It also gave me a good Idea of how big he should be and what age he is! That sites a goddsend!

Maybe he was just skinny for his age... poor baby.

If I were you I'd make a vet appointment just to be sure; you don't know what else he's picked up from the pet store. Worms, fleas, who knows... they probably don't care about a kit's health if they'll sell it so young. Anyway, it's routine to make a first visit when you get a kitten, just in case & to get its first shots.

That's an excellent idea. From what I hear it's almost 100% chance that kittens have worms. Take a sample of his poop for them to test!

Thanks guys! Im not even going to bother with bringing in a sample with of his poop! Im going to get his first shots, dewormed rabies shot (if he's old enough) and have him checked from nose to tail! I always do! Thanks for all the helpfull advice! I will let you know what the vet says tomarrow if I dont talk to you before them!

He's too young for any shots. Distemper they sometimes bump to 6 weeks, but it is not as effective if you do it at 6 weeks. The vet here does disempter shot at 8 weeks, then a booster exactly 3-4 weeks later(immunity is full 1 week after the booster, no booster, no immunity). Rabies is done...at I dunno...maybe 14 weeks?

I would deworm at least 2x, once, then again two weeks later.

He is so sweet and it is wonderful that he is responding well to all your good treatment. But do give the shop a piece of all our minds!
