I'm from the old school of thought and don't make any plans/decisions until after the first trimester of pregnancy since that is the most critical part of a pregnancy so I wouldn't even be thinking about names - sorry, no help here.

Yes, I used to think that way before I got pregnant. And then I thought I'm not going to deny this pregnancy or myself the pleasure of sharing it with friends and planning for it `in case' anything goes wrong. If it does, there's nothing I can do about it - but at least my friends and family will have known and will be there to support me. I couldn't imagine keeping such big news a secret or not letting myself get excited or plan for it. I used to agree - but now that I actually am pregnant I think it's a very negative way to think - well, it feels that way for me, anyway. Almost as if somehow I'm subconsciously wishing harm on my pregnancy - or expecting something to go wrong, at the least. I refuse to think negatively about this at all - and will cross that bridge IF I come to it.

Thank you everyone for your input! This is very exciting.

And Bruce - I have read the Belgariad and Mallorean about 15 times! Some of my favourite books.

Ok - thought it was time to resurrect this - we only have a few months to go!

We are strictly girl's names now, though. Yay! Girls... awwwwwwwww ....

All suggestions welcome and the points reward still applies!

That's part of the reason I asked people though - because not only do you get good ideas but you also get to see the sorts of tastes that other people have and what they like, and what's popular these days as well as some really original ideas that I'd never thought of.

I like Ryan for a girl, too!

My boss was considering her baby's name if it was a girl-which it isn't anymore
- as Brayley. My boss' middle name is Eres(pronounced Air-es with a short e) so it was going to be Brayley Eres. LOVE it!

Congrats on the girl though!

I love Biblical names, for some reason.

For girls: Ruth, Judith, Naomi, Sarai, Leah, Eden, Adah, Salome

For boys: Levi, Caleb, Cain, Noah, Jacob, Eli, Ezra, Jeremiah, Josiah, Jonas

I already have names picked out for when I have kids...
A girl will be Zoe Jane (yes, after the Staind song...) and a boy will be Ethan Patrick (the Patrick is subject to change depending on how I feel at that point of my life)

I must admit I'm a bit of a traditionalist. And I especially don't get into spelling traditional names in weird ways. I don't think it's original, really - just silly. And difficult for the child when it has to constantly spell its name to people!!

I remember laughing with Max once when I said I liked Rebekah - and spelt that way, the Hebrew way. But I said to him `I like it spelt the Hebrew way' and he said, `How's that? With an X??'. And that's how it seems - so many names I see these days have the spelling altered to make it look fancy or different (I guess) and it just looks stupid to me.

But that's just me, I guess!

My Grandparents next door neighbors had a little girl, and named her Brytni (Brittany) I've never seen it spelled that way before!

A great way to search for names is to go to the Soc. Security page [http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/]. You can search for names by year back to the 1880's so if you like classic names, modern names, etc you can just pick a year and search.

Our names tentatively are Max Francis (my great grandparents) and Catherine Dorothy (after the Mr's mother and grandmother) - yes they're family names but they're names that we really like regardless.
