For all of you that have Sphynx cats... do you bath your cats each week? If so, how do they like it. Molly is 1 and a half years old now, and I have bathed him fairly regularly, although certainly not every week. We don't have a bath where we are living right now... only showers, so I have to bath him in the kitchen sink and he HATES it. He KNOWS when I am planning a bath... it is really weird. Before I have even got the place ready for his bath he knows what I am plotting and runs off to hide away. He has not had a bath for a very long time and he is FILTHY. I have an appointment for him to go to the pet groomers today for a bath, but with another Sphynx arriving at the end of the month, it could get rather expensive to make a visit to the groomer a regular feature. Who would have thought that a hairless cat could require a visit to the pet groomer
. Any tips??

I have had a Devon Rex before and he only had very few baths. I find that even with that little bit of hair it is enough to absorb the oil that is secreted ~ at least, more than with a Sphynx
. I also had 2 Cornish Rex that had a bath about every other month, but they both loved it so it was never an issue. Btw, Devons are DARLING cats and yours looks beautiful
.

How about a sphynx rescue? Surely there's one somewhere, and an adoption fee wouldn't be as high as buying a kitten--and on top of that you'd be taking in a cat that wouldn't have a home otherwise.

Hi I have 8 sphynx. I only give mine a bath when needed. Some get dirtier quicker than others. I have one that has sinuse issues that needs a bath every week. I have another also with sinuse issues that needs a bath every two weeks. I have one that can go two months with out a bath and the rest of them needs a bath once a month. When I only had 5 I use to take mine to the groomer every two weeks but the groomer I used liked there visites so much and knew that it did not take long to give them there baths that she only charged me 5 dollars per cat. I have called other groomers in my area that wanted 20 dollars per cat. But now that I have 8 I just bath them my self. I have 4 that love a bath. 2 that dont fuss about it to much. 1 that hates it. and 1 that if you are not quick enough for him he will jump over your head and get you soaked. What do you wash your Sphynx with. sometimes what you are useing to wash them in can effect how much oil they produce and make them get dirty quicker.

EIGHT SPHYNX!!! I am jealous!! There must never be a dull moment in your household... these cats are such fun
. I took Molly to the groomer yesterday and ended up helping the lady bath him... it took all of 5 minutes and cost R80, which in South African terms is expensive. Once I get my second Sphynx next week it won't be an option to take them there once a week. I would have thought seeing as how I did most of the work at the groomers I would have had a discount... no such luck! When I do bath him at home I use Johnson's baby shampoo, which is what they used at the groomers. I must say, that he looked GORGEOUS after his bath. Perhaps I am being a bit over ambitious to want to bath him once a week.

If he needs to be bathed once a week then thats what I would do but if he does not need it then bathing him once a week can cause his skin to produce more oil and make him even dirtier. I wash my Sphynx in Dove body wash for sentive skin. It makes there skin so soft and leaves them smelling great for days. I have used Johnsons baby wash on mine also but I like the Dove body wash better. And your right it is never a dull moment in my house someone is always into something. They are great cats and if I had a bigger house I would have more of them. My youngest son can not be around a cat with hair because of his allegries He is allergic to the hair only. so we got our first Sphynx and fell in love. We stayed in touch with the breeder and when she would get rescues, or owner surrenders, or retire one of her cats she would offer them to us and we have gotten 8. We had 10 but lost two of them one from a heart condition and one from cancer.

Thanks so much for all your advice
~ I really appreciate it. I would love to see pics of all your babies together... talk about cute overload! I will be introducing a 1 year old neutered Sphynx male into my household next Friday and have gotten lots of advice from this forum, but Molly's breeder says that Sphynx, being as friendly as they are, need not take so long to introduce them to one another. He says to bring the newbie into the house in his crate, let it stand there a bit while my resident cat (Molly) and Frenchie sniff around him, them after a while to simply let him out and meet. My animals are very well socialised, as is the newcomer. With all your Spnynx's, did you ever do it this way?

Most of mine with them comeing from the same breeder had been around each other before. So most of them I just brought in showed them the food water and litter boxes and turned them loose. With the ones that had not been around each other I put the new one in my bathroom and let them smell each other from under the door for a few hours and then turned them together. I have never had a problem with any of them but one and she was a rescue from a shelter that when the breeder I got my babies from had went to a cat show and found her in the shelter and got her out she gets mad for a few days when someone new comes in but is fine in just a couple of days. She never fights with anyone just walks around like she is not to happy. PM me your email address and I will email you pictures of them.
