We still have a flea problem. Poor Jack still has fleas on him and he's had 3 applications of Frontline. I called the vet and they suggested that I switch to Advantage and that I use some sort of insecticide to kill the fleas. They said they had a product that you spray on the carpet, rugs, furniture, etc. that will paralyze the fleas/flea eggs/larvae, etc. for up to 180 and I would need to vacuum everyday for 180 days. She didn't say this stuff would kill them, just paralyze them?
Can anyone recommend a product to get rid of the fleas in my house that will actually kill them? I've never had a flea problem before so I don't really know where to start! Thanks.

There's no place like home
Look for food grade diatomaceous earth (do a google search). It's a powder that you sprinkle into your carpets then use a broom to work it in. The food grade version is safe enough for you pets to ingest without harm, and IMO, works a LOT better than chemical sprays. I had a horrible infestation one year and this cleared them out in a week.

Vaccuum very well first then sprinkle it in. Move your furniture around and make sure you get under it. Wash all bedding and throw rugs also.

I had a greyhound that we rushed to an emergency vet one day when we treated with a spray chemical, provided by our vet, that claimed to be safe enough to use on kittens and puppies. He was poisoned by inhaling the fumes. I simply don't use them anymore.

I have used the foggers before. You do have to seal up the house (turn off the heat and air, close windows) and leave for 4 hours or so. Then return, open up the house to air out for several hours and leave again.
You can't leave any live animals in the house during the fogging or the airing out.
I also get Capstar and give it the furries right before leave the house, to kill the adult fleas. It works for 6-8 hours, then you can apply the topical flea treatment.
The fogger has to be repeated in 3 weeks.

I have asthma and a VERY sensitive to inhaled substances. I do the treatment early in the morning: at Noon I open up the house windows (and turn on the fans for the AC/furnace) and dont come back until bedtime. I will either go to a pet friendly hotel (after the Capstar has time to work) or hang out in the SUV all day. I vacuum and mop before the furries are allowed back on the floors. My Golden has every allergy known to canines.
