Hi,

I have a 9 month old, Melody, and a 6 month old, Harmony (both girls). We just (3 hours ago) got a boy, Whistler, who is 12 weeks. Despite the recommendation that most people give of introducing them slowly, we have introduced him to them straight away. When we did the same with the girls (we didn't know at the time how to properly do it) they had a bit of a fight for a day or two and got used to each other (now I'm verging on thinking that they are
lesbians
). However, this time it seems different. Harmony, the youngest, sits and hisses at him. She has had the odd little swipe at him but generally just hissing and growling. Melody, the oldest, won't come anywhere near him. She seems terrified of him and keeps running away as soon as she catches a glimpse of him. You may just say it it is way too early to expect them to be okay with each other, and I do suspect that I am being overly paranoid, but I just want some other opinions on this as I would hate for any of my kittys to be upset, feel rejected, or hurt each other. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much people.

p.s. I know there is a thread directly below mine on how to introduce cats and kittens, but I didn't notice it until after posting, and I also wanted to be specific about the situation so as not to overlook any possibilities.

Thanks again in advance for any answers. While you may think I have done the wrong thing by introducing them in the way I have, I do care for them very much and I just want them all to be happy.

Hi,
Melody and Harmony are behaving quite normally. There is really no specific time for new cats to accept each other. It may be vary from instant liking to non tolerance for years depending on how different the cats' ages and background.
Anyway, continue supervising them and following the advice on intros. The 3 are still kittens and I am sure they will get along very soon.

Thanks yayi for the advice and support. 24 hours later and Harmony has been taking little swipes at him, but Melody is still very hesitant. But I am panicking less now at least, which can only be a good thing. Plus I'm enjoying keeping them separated as it means he spends the night sleeping on my bed with me (a privilege which Harmony usually makes the most of. I'll put him in another room tomorrow so she can have her place next to me back). Melody is going to be the problem I think.

On a non-related note, Melody has lost a bit of weight lately and just seems to pick at food. She has also become a little distant (even before Whistler arrived). She seems to lie down in odd, cold places as opposed to the warm, fluffy sofa as per usual. Any ideas what could be the cause of this?

Again, many thanks for taking the time to reply.
