Well, I have been here a while so I thought I would share the story of why my dear husband got me Raven.
In july we got a puppy. A darling little pug puppy. We named him Cash and I loved him. He was as smart as a whip and great with our 3 children. I have allergies and live in a farming community. Almost as soon as we brought Cash home my eyes started itching and I would have sneeze attacks. I do not think that it was just because of Cash, but because I was outside so much more, walking him and playing outside.
Towards the end of August we found out the HUGE shock that I was VERY UNEXPECTEDLY pregnant again (with #4).
We had gotten Cash thinking that our family was complete. When I found out that I was pregnant I really mulled over what I should do, he would not even have been 1 when we had the baby. Now I am a believer in adopt an animal for life, but I also believe in doing what is best for everyone involved.
So I came to the heartbreaking decision that because of my allergies and the unexpected financial crunch of adding another baby to find Cash a new home. My husbands brother and my sister in law had 3 pugs of their own and when they heard that I wanted to find Cash a new home because of our circumstances they asked if they could have him. So it really was a win win situation, I knew that he would have the best home he could ever ask for AND I would even be able to see him again (although they live 4 hours away). So she drove up here to get him.
5 days later I began having sharp nonstopping pain in my left side. It was terrible. And it turned into the absolute worst day of my life. I was having an ectopic pregnancy. I had to have surgery to save my life, they had to remove my fallopian tube (and of course the baby). I was heartbroken. Even though that baby had been very unexpected I still wanted it very much. (That was on September 11th). And since I had just given my sweet puppy away, it felt like a double loss. I was very sad and going through a dark time.
On October 10th my dear husband came home from work and then made up someplace he had to go. He came home with Raven. He got her from a free kittens add in the paper, she was the only black kitten in a litter of grey tabbies and was raised on a sled dog farm. He picked her for me because she was black and black had been how I was feeling.
Since the very first day she was here she has brought me so much joy. I have really started to be myself again. I am at peace with what happened and know that things like this, as horrible as it was, can only make a person stronger if they let it.
Raven is here to stay and she is my joy kitty.

edited: just wanted to add that the skin kid part of our family is STILL considered complete. I am now thankful to be done with the newborn stage and such lol.

What a sad story
I'm very glad everything worked out though, and both animals got a good home in the end.

I'm so sorry for your loss! That was a very sweet and thoughtful thing for your husband to do to help you through such a hard time. It's great that Raven helped you through that...you both won since she got a great new loving home!
