A few days ago I got some flack because I only seem to be watching Rated R movies, but trust me there are some wonderful family films out there for all to enjoy. Because Thanksgiving is coming and all of the winter family holidays are right around the corner I thought that I'd put some really good movies up that everyone can enjoy.

1. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059026/

This is short and very sweet. The whole family can pull up a chair and just enjoy. It's out on DVD for rental as well as to buy. However, the box set also includes all the other Charlie Brown TV specials.

2. Ratatouille (2007)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382932/

One of the cutest movies in recent memory. IMO the short that is played in front of this film is one of the best animated pieces I've seen come out of an American studio. The best part is is that it's NOT a musical!

3. Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097814/

This is a Japanese movie that is so wonderful that I've forced all my friends to see it. Make SURE that if you rent it that it is dubbed into English. I always watch foreign movies with subtitles on, but for a five year old it may be a bit too much. It should say on the back of the box.

4. My Neighbor Totoro (1988)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096283/

Another great Japanese family movie. This one is going to deal with some of the broader elements of the culture, but it's still fun to watch. I have fallen in love with the bus scenes.

Both of those are just great!

For some weird reason when I was a kid we'd always watch Clash of the Titans right on Christmas break. I think it was because we were always reading Greek and Roman myths right before break. It's not a movie for small children, but for kids who are in middle school. You may also want to buy them an Greek myth anthology to go along with it.

There is a BOX set of them ALL!?!?!?! I MUST Have It!!!

I just bought a DVD with the 2 Christmas specials on it for $7.50 at Walmart. My step-dad and I are big Peanuts fans, so he has lots of them on VHS. They also had a 7 movie pack with a bunch of classics from when I was a kid. Ones like Santa Clause is Coming to Town, Mr Magoos Christmas Carol and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. It's only like $25, so DH is on orders to buy that for me too! (here it is: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...le98286-rLink1 )

I love this movie! I don't want to get the DVD though, because I really like the voice talents of the video. I wish Totoros were real.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is an excellent movie and a favorite of my family's.

I'd also recommend The Princess Bride.
