I'm posting this here rather than in paws and reflect because I wanted to write something about the plight of ferals and strays and wanted to give the warm-hearted readers of this forum a chance to see it before it got a bit buried in another forum.

It was whipped up quickly, just now, but I like it. Not as good as some of my older, more refined work, but nevertheless, I think it gets the point across.

---

A warm bed tonight
full belly, water
not frozen over with cold
Voices speak to me
but I fear to listen
I've not known this before
soft voices and full belly
a warm bed
I know only the wild
and I'm frightened
and alone
I don't understand
though I want to
want to know the security
and comfort of
a loving home
Perhaps one day I will
but for now it's enough...

that somebody cared
