Hi, we got a gorgeous kitten in May, he is now 9 months old, called Tigger. We really wanted to get 2 kittens but the others in the litter already had homes to go to (there were only 3 in litter). He is good as gold & has had no problems settling in but now we have a dilemma. My friends cat has had a kitten & she wants us to have it, i don't know what to do
I really, really want to say yes, the kitten is beautiful & I've fallen in love with him
& we originally wanted 2 but I don't want to upset Tigger & ruin everything! I've been reading loads of info on the websites & am still not sure! Tigger is really friendly & definately not a shy or timid cat, he even purrs at the vet! There are lots of other cats in the neighbourhood & he tends to just stare at them, he doesn't run away or hiss at them, but would he accept another kitten into his home? Has anyone else got similar stories that have worked out fine? What do you suggest?

It depend on how old he is.

Links was 12 weeks when we got 8week old Lexi. I introduced them straight away, and he hissed abit, but by the end of the evening, they were wrestling like they shold be.

Welcome to TCS, from a fellow UK member. (We seem to have a lot of UK members joining at the moment, means I have more people to talk to when the US is asleep

Tigger is 9 months old & other kitten is 4 weeks old, would probably be 8-10 weeks old when we brought him home

Welcome to TCS

I brought in a stray about a year ago and my other two didn't seem to have any problem adjusting. They were a little nervous and cautious but they weren't violent or scared. If you want a second cat, I would say go for it. Just make sure you keep an eye on the kitten. If Tigger does get overstimulated or too annoyed with the new kitten he might try to hurt him. After a few weeks, once Tigger gets used to having a sibling, they should be just fine together. And Tigger will thank you eventually for getting him a playmate and friend.

Hi and welcome to TCS

We brought in an 18 month old stray male a year ago this month.
We already had three 7 year old females...we took the introductions VERY slowly and they get along fine.

At first he picked on the smallest of the females, but at one point she'd just had enough.
She turned around and batted him a good one across the head, he sat right down on the spot like he couldn't believe she did it.
Since then they get along fine.

Hello & welcome to the cat site. From what I've heard 2 males are fine if they are both fixed, otherwise they'll fight for top dog, so to speak. There's a sticky in the behaviour section called Have a Behavior Problem Look here 1st - introducing new cats to old. Breeders don't let their kittens go to new homes until 12 weeks old & spayed/neutered. This gives them time to be weaned & learn how to be a cat from their mums & siblings.
Good luck & we want to see pics.

I would say that if Tigger is 9 months old than he is still young enough to adapt fairly easily. I am sure that even if there is a rough patch at first that they will eventually be friends.
Go for it! It will all work out.

Hi, welcome to TCS. This site has given me a lot of information on cats I never knew

I recently introduced a 4 month old male to our 4 year old female. It was a long introduction process but seems to be slowly working out. I really, really enjoy having 2 cats now. It's definitely worth the extra effort!

If you do a search on introducing a new cat you will find a lot of helpful information.

Welcome
