Hi everyone,
My c. 6-month-old cat broke her tail on Wednesday; I took her to the vet on Thursday. Her bladder is not working, but she can defecate. The vet said I should leave it 48 hours to see if there is any improvement. Is there anything I can do to help her bladder right itself again?

It says on this site http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body...ken_tails.html that cats with a broken tail, loss of sensation and urine retention (all of which she has) usually make a full recovery. Is this true? My vet didn't sound very hopeful.

The web site you referred to mentions squeezing the bladder to help the cat release urine. Did the vet discuss this with you? That would seems to be the most important thing at this point. In addition to the issue of over stretching the bladder it seems to me that toxic wastes could build up in kitty's system if the urine isn't released.

Good luck and positive thoughts to you and your kitty. I hope she makes a good recovery.
