One week til Black Friday!

I've been watching the ads for a week now online, ( http://www.black-friday.net/ ) plotting out where I need to go & what deals are the best
I've signed up on that website to be alerted when the ads for certain stores come out

I'm going to the Twin Cities - to the Mall of America to hit up a lot of great deals, along with the department stores along the way

I'm really psyched, this is the day when I try to get all of my Christmas shopping done in one day! I've got my shopping shoes ready

Any other Black Friday shoppers?

As a general rule, I try to avoid shopping on Black Friday, I cannot stand the crowds and such.....that being said, I am watching the papers and ads to see if anyone is going to be running a good deal on laptop computers, as I'm trying to find one before my computer here croaks completly......otherwise, I'll probably be working!

I'm a die-hard Black Friday specialist! I get all of the local ads together and plot my shopping! I also go to the store with the best bargains the night before and figure out where the item is so I can head straight there when the doors open. I've been B-F shopping for the past 5 years. There are a few stores I refuse to go to due to trampling and fist fights. I read in 1 ad that they will hand out tickets at 3AM for the bargains...1 of each bargain per ticket. The store doesn't open till 7AM!

PM me if you would like another website that already has most of the ads posted!

Why is it referred to as "Black Friday"? That makes it sound like something bad. That type of term is usually given to a day when the stock market crashed or an economic depression.

Post Thanksgiving Sale sounds a whole lot better

Black Friday was originally so named because of the heavy traffic on that day, although most contemporary uses of the term refer instead to it as the beginning of the period in which retailers are in the black (i.e., turning a profit).

This is from the link I posted above

At any rate, I'll be shopping my butt off, saving a lot of money, those sales add up!

Plus I have to swap out commercial clients containers from fall to winter for a few hours.

No way .. I did that when I was younger and I would never do it again .. Unless there was something REALLY good that I REALLY wanted .. Plus I have to work .. It's not that bad, it's gonna be really quiet at the store that day and hopefully let out early!

I don't do crowds. I get really cranky when I'm surrounded by too many people. So, that being said I don't shop on Black Friday.

Black Friday is just another day for me. We already have a full surgery schedule that day...something like 29 scheduled so far (with a week to still add more.) I'm like 6th on the list to have the day off....it'll never happen.

I use to love it!!!! I could get my entire family (including all fur-nephews and neices) present for around $200. However since B and I got together and start Christmas shopping together, he doesn't get up that early

However I'm planning on doing it this year with or without him. I truely miss it!

I've never done it, but I might this year. We're gonna hit the toy stores this weekend and get the niece and nephews done. I don't even know if I'll buy anything. I just want to experience the maddness as a shopper, not the retail worker! I think this insane idea has come to my head as a direct result of too much free time! In years past, I've just wanted an extra day to sleep in!

I've always thought it was kind of rude, so I've never done it. Just my little boycott. Kind of like "the people who work in retail aren't good enough to stay home and spend an extra day relaxing and spending time with their family, unlike the people with regular 9-5 jobs." Seems to me that it's an extension of the "working class vs. ruling class" thing.

I think this was influenced by having to go to restaurants on Thanksgiving several times when I was little. I always felt horrible that these people had to wait on us and couldn't be at home.

This year, however, I'm working on Black Friday. It'll be my first time to work on that day. I'm not looking forward to it. The store's going to be trashed and the people are probably going to be jerks.

We look to www.bfads.net for our planning. I'm sure we will be going out and doing lots of shopping that day, but as we are set for a computer, don't have the cash for a plasma/flat panel TV, and don't buy for kids I don't think we're going to be in the "lining up at 1 a.m. or earlier for the doorbusters" people. Personally I think the tickets at 3 a.m. are a great idea because we went and lined up at early-dawn-thirty at Best Buy before they implimented that. If you've been waiting in the cold for mmmmmnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnv bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbzxxxxxxxx (Ginger says hello) at least 3-4 hours in the cold and don't get a sale item because a group of twits pulled up as the doors opened and rushed in cutting in line - yeah, there could be fisticuffs!

We've been talking to a lot of retail employees about BF, and many of them actually do enjoy it. It's all in the mindset.

I have to work the day after Thanksgiving as usual. It is going to be a slow day too! A lot of people assume we will be closed. They assume that because we handle Federal Student Loans that we get all the holidays off. Not true! They just don't want to pay us holiday pay.

But when I did have the day off I never did go shopping. I never have any extra money. It has been very lean the past few years. Hopefully Mike's disability will come thru soon. When it does, they will have to pay him from when he first applied. So he will have at least 9 months of benefits due him.

Black Friday B&M shopping is a nightmare. No thanks. For those who don't know, an increasing number of items are available online every year. Some stores start the sales around midnight. So if you want to stay awake and sit in your house until midnight instead of waking up at midnight and standing outside a store in the freezing cold for 5 hours, then give that a try. Of course, the "early bird" and "door buster" stuff won't be online. But... meh. Who cares? I'm as big a cheapskate as anyone, but I still value my time and my sanity.

So are you comparing the employees to the shoppers or to people who are home in bed? Because I'm quite certain that Black Friday sucks for shoppers as much as is it does for employees. The "ruling class" does not stand in freezing temperatures for several hours to save $100 on a low-end laptop or a crappy, no-name flat panel TV.
