Well today is warm and sunny, and of course Charlie doesn't want to be in the house all day. I decide to re-arrange his enclosure 'furniture' and i peg up fabric in a few areas so he isn't in the full sun (the enclosure is topped with shadecloth but the walls are wire). As soon as i peg up one piece, he moves to sunbake in another area! I finally get three hot spots and he settles down in an area that has full sun, but long grass right in the corner. So when he curls up the grass is covering him.

Half the time i can't even see him because he's found a hiding spot
I let the grass grow inside the enclosure. That way he feels safe, it grows long around the edges to protect him and is good for munching, the rest is shorter. His favourite other spot is where i've lay scratching logs against a chair which he uses as a perch, and the long grass has grown over the main log so he looks like a jungle cat when he climbs to and from, poking his head through the long blades.

He's just so cute! I'm always re-arranging and finding better ways to make him comfy, so i hope when we move i can get it done as soon as possible because he won't like being locked up in the house, and i'm planning on extending.

Do you guys have any funny stories about enclosures or problems/transitions, anything you want to share.

That is one of the CUTEST siggies I've ever seen!!!

We built a "catio" off of our Mojave home with 2x4's, plywood, hardware, and large-gauge wire netting; we put a door on it with a keyed lock, too. It had wide sills halfway up, above which was the netting, framed in. It was painted, and we put in cat furniture, toys, a litterbox, and a "snack bar" area with water and dry food. They would spend all day out there! It was accessed off our living room, which had sliding glass doors and we bought a special catdoor insert for sliders to put in. They could go in and out freely whenever they wanted, but I could close the catflap when it was snowing or when there was a sandstorm.

It was a cat Paradise!

Thanks
for some reason he liked Cheds crackers and i know i shouldn't encourage him but he goes straight for whatever's in my hand

your enclosure sounds wonderful! I hope to make the next one homely, it's more rustic. Using new wooden planks for walkways, a sidechest with a fuzzy towel as a hideout, logs and deckchair for a perch/scratching posts. He also has his crinkly tunnel in there, alot of long grass to hide, and a paved area if he needs somewhere dry or a bit cooler in the summer. And of course water. If i put dry food in there the ants and bugs get to it. But he's in and out of the house all day so he never starves, he's my little budda belly

It will pretty much be the same at the next house i think but with some adjustments, i want to buy a small doggy house so he's completely weather proof. Sometimes when it starts raining he doesnt want to come back in the house and runs for cover instead and ignores me!

I envy anyone who has the money and resources to make something fancy. I've seen some enclosures built under high back porches and i am soo ashamed

Girl, don't you be ashamed. I loved the photos you posted before. If my cats had anything like what you built, they would be in complete kitty heaven! You did good with the resources you have
Charlie sure isn't complaining!
