...well, for me anyway. I went horseback riding. I've been through about 10 years with a really bad hip and finally got it fixed in May. I've still got to work on getting on the horse (had to use a fence) and losing a bit of weight, but once I got on, I actually felt like crying. I haven't felt so free for so long!

I'm sorry to hear about your hip trouble, but I'm glad to hear you are on the mend now. I used to take dressage and jumping lessons when I was a kid, but I haven't ridden in years now. Just riding a horse period can give you such a feeling of freedom, but it sounds like this was a particularly meaningful experience for you. I'm happy for you!!!

Major improvement from a few months ago when you were still too worried that you wouldn't be able to get your hip taken care of.
I hope you take this second chance and enjoy it fully!

It's been ten years since I last rode a horse too... I don't think I'll ever be able to again, right now with my luck how it is I would herniate a disc just attempting to get in the saddle.

That's why we have three horses
Horseback riding is so much fun and it really does make you feel free. I'm glad you were able to do it! I think everyone needs the chance to ride horses every now and again. They just have something about them that makes them great therapy for people!

I am so glad you were able to do that! I miss horse riding. Unfortunately I don't have the time or the opportunity, but I love it so much!

You have inspired me. I love riding, have done it all my life but not for three years now - it was hard in Bosnia because of land mines, and I always intended to buy a riding pony here but have somehow ended up with three rescue Shetlands instead! And I have hip/knee problems too. But I do want to go back to it, and I will.

Well, I'm a bit sore today, but thanks for the encouragement! I slept a lot better than I had since my mom died, so it's definitely therapy for me.

I've been volunteering with this group for about 5 years (my kids are in the organization), and have learned all the catching, grooming, saddling and bridling stuff, and that's just wonderful in itself. But getting up on board - wow! The little mare I rode last night is a former wild Mustang from Wyoming. It was awesome!

Yippee ti yi yay!
Way to go Kim! I am so happy for you!
I love riding, but haven't gone in years! I hope that you can keep it up! Is this a riding camp that you volunteer for? Or rescue? I am asking because one of my clients has three rescue horses from Canada - taken from a slaughter house and brought here to NH! Oh, how I wish I could do that, too!
Good luck with your riding!

Aw that's great that your finally able to climb back aboard. I have horses myself, and I know the feeling very well. I couldn't imagine what I'd do without them.

The group is a youth-based mounted drill team. The riders that are older do it at a dead run. My kids are up to the fast lope/gallop stage. My son does it bareback, and he just looks like he's part of the horse. That's one thing that made me want to try - he looks so free, and he smiles when riding where for a while there he rarely smiled. Like once a year.

Oh, I'm so glad for you! You just lived one of my fantasies... I've never ridden in my life, and I want to so badly! I just don't even know where to go, but someday... it's on my list.

My next dream is to be in good enough shape and a good enough rider to go on one of those vacations where you round up cattle for a week!
