Hi. I'm Jen and I used to have two cats, PK and Nellie. We lost little Nellie last month. Their photos are here on Flickr:

Nellie was just the cutest kitten ever. We named her "Nervous Nellie" because of the perpetually terrified look on her face as a kitten. As an adult cat, Nellie remained the sweetest, kindest most loving cat; we miss her so. That being said, PK (her brother, same age, excellent health) is a stellar individual too. We call him "a dog in a cat suit." The kindest, most social, sweet and gorgeous kitty. He's really not a whale, like his picture makes him seem. He's in real good shape. We love him to bits and soon, when we can afford it, plan to get him a kitten to fill the void left by his sister.

I've never belonged to a cat group before; it's nice to be in the company of so many fellow cat people! Your pictures and graphics make me chuckle. Thanks for the kind words of welcome & condolence.

Regarding your comment on PK, I can tell you his name is short for "Psycho Kitty." (described his early kitten personality) It's great how I got him. I was downstairs at my dysfunctional downstairs neighbor's apartment. (they had several momma cats and they--the owners, that is--were too drunk most of the time to get them spayed). My plan was to adopt a calico, little Nellie, from the latest batch. Well, I was down there meeting Nellie and petting her (I couldn't get her yet, as she wasn't weaned), and out of the closet walked the most gorgeous little yellow face I ever saw. I heard the words "I'll take that one, too" come out of my mouth. Mind you, I lived alone in a one-bedroom apartment....I had no idea what I'd do with two cats, but like I said, it just came out of my mouth. well DUH! Turns out it was the best decision I ever made! Now I recommend to everyone that they should always adopt two. PK is the friendliest, most social cat I have EVER met! He greets every guest, including people like the plumber and the cable guy, and spends the whole time hovering over them, rubbing them and generally covering them with yellow fur. It's a riot. He's such a dog.

Sadly, PK is now a solo act but I'm looking forward to the whole kitten thing again. It's an event you can't usually have that many times (getting a new kitten) so we're eager to do it. Just costs more than we have right now.

Thanks to all of you for your kind comments. Get this....I was doing one of my in-store appearances at a store called Especially for Pets where I set up a table, sell my art, meet the customers, etc. And it turns out that it was also Kitten Adoption Day! So right across the aisle from me for three hours were these cats all needing adoption.

I was certainly in the market for a new cat, due to losing Nellie in October, but I didn't get a kitten. I felt like as much as I REALLY wanted one, the older kitties would be harder to place, so I took a lovely, rotund 8-year old kitty named Kitty Belle instead. Her owner was being transferred overseas. Kitty Belle is a gorgeous, round, gray tuxedo cat with white "socks and mittens", a lovely bib, double paws and a hilarious little white chin. We have yet to get a good photo of her (she's still trying to adjust and the flash bulb doesn't help), though. Of course I can't wait to start featuring her in my art; she will be fun to paint.

After less than a week she has gone from hissing at us and scratching us, to rubbing against us, purring and even getting on a lap or two. We can't wait to introduce her to PK (who we're keeping upstairs, separate, for now). But, first things first, you know?

Aw, congratulations on your new kitty! Can't wait to see her. PK and Nellie are both gorgeous cats; I hope that PK will like having a new playmate.
