How can such a cutie like my Miles have such awful breath? It smells like he ate a rotten mouse! Blech!!
The rescue I adopted him from says he's 4-5 months old. He also does a strange chewing or chomping thing, mostly after he licks himself - he almost looks like he's chewing on a piece of gum!

He's eating well, is playful and not biting things. Could he be teething? He won't let me look in his mouth to check, but I wouldn't know what to look for anyway!

Yep, he's around the right age for teething, it can cause bad breath.

My two kittens are around the same age. They are teething and wont really let me check either....try to look when theyre sleepy they dont fight as much. They both have horrible breath..one worse than the other but from what ive read its normal. I'm not going to rush off to the vet for it.

To help teething kitties, pick up some of those fat plastic straws and give him a few to play with/chew on. If they start to get too chewed up, just replace them with new ones.

Forrest loved the straws when he was teething. He'd really chew them up and I would have to change them daily. I also got him a few chew toys which he also would use. His breath was TERRIBLE when the baby teeth were coming out, but its all better now (he's 6 months old).

Additionally, Forrest's baby canines did not fall out initially when the adult teeth came in. He was our little "Shark boy" for about a week and 1/2.

The new teeth grow under the old ones & the funny chewing could be he's trying to dislodge them. I 1st knew Blossom was teething when I trod on something sharp in the carpet. I was one of her smaller back teeth, the strangest little thing I'd ever seen, like a little star.

I was able to look at my cat's teeth for a bit while he was asleep. I couldn't really open his mouth up widely, but I did see that on his right side, he has a nice, big, white fang, but on his left, he has a big fang and another, smaller fang right next to it.

I guess I've confirmed that he IS teething!
I'll try giving him a straw to chew on. Thanks for the tip.

Yup, your baby is growing up.
I'd throw a few of the straws around for him. Bijou and Mika loved chasing them and chewing them.

Kitto loves those plastic straws, he carries them all over.
