I still don't have a proper camera again after my original one went missing but! dad was kind enough to lend me his camera. It's an old digital point and shoot and far from what I'm used to but it does take photos.

So here's the girl now in some rather washed out photos:

A friend of mine stayed with me for a few days and slept in a sleeping bag. Nikita thought the cat sleeping cave we'd brought out was most suitable.

Chasing a toy

Curled up in a ball

Savaging my carefully wrapped and thick leather gloved arm

..but getting distracted by a noise

and here she's being a mighty hunter, that's an actual mouse she's carrying, and yes she's an indoor cat, we're dealing with a mouse infestation atm. She is very helpful though and *loves* it.

I'm a fan of Nikita!
I love the curled up in a ball shot. My parents dogs would do that and they would look like little donuts.
The mouse one is a bit... shocking. I've never seen a cat actually carry an animal in it's mouth before, just what was left of it. Did she eat it?

It's actually rather bad in a way. She doesn't kill the mice, she's too well fed and has too much fun (and probably wasn't taught by her mother) so what she does is she catches the mouse, puts it in her mouth (sometimes taking it up so much so that only the tail is hanging out) and then walks to my bag or my shoe to spit the mouse out into those so that she can hunt it all over again.

I'm usually running around at that time trying to get the mouse too so that I can either kill it quickly or put it in the garden if it's not too badly hurt (yes I'm a wuss)

However the mice are pests and I lost all patience when they went on my kitchen counter, left mouse droppings and chewed through the plastic to get at a loaf of bread I hadn't even opened yet. At the time Nikita wasn't allowed in the kitchen on her own so the door was closed.

Needless to say after that I have an open door kitchen policy and I've not had any more mouse trouble since. Nikita has only caught around 4 mice in total. Her smell is enough to keep them away normally.

Btw the mouse she's carrying in the photo escaped. Nikita spat it out into a corner (after having dropped it and re-caught around 3 times) and the mouse ran into the bathroom and disappeared.
