Friday was the month anniversary of Lyndsey's death. I was driving down my street in the morning and I noticed a cat by the side of the road. He looked so pitiful and close to the street that I stopped. He came right over and kept meowing. I went back home and got some food and water. He ate an entire can of cat food, a bowl of dry food and a bowl of water. Later that day I went door to door looking for an owner. I didn't find one so I took him home. I put a bed and blanket in a corner of our garage with food and water. He was so happy, he purred and ate all his food. He curled up and slept for a long time. My kids named him Tiger. I checked on him periodically. But I knew something wasn't right. I took him to the vet the next day. The vet said he was "very very sick". He said he was anemic, dehydrated and most likely had feline leukemia. He said there was nothing they could do and whatever they could do would not be enough and he would die. They put him to sleep.

I am just crushed. I had no intention of having another cat, but I can not turn away from an animal in need. Having just lost Lyndsey, I just feel smothered by loss. My only saving grace are the kind words of the vet office staff, who let me sob in the lobby while telling me I did the right thing. Thanks for listening.

I'm so sorry about Tiger. I am glad though, that you were there to make his last days happy and full of love. He was not alone, and he loves you for it.

RIP sweet boy

I'm sooo very sorry. Bless you for looking after that cat, caring for him and just letting him know that someone cared about him, even in his last few days. You allowed him to go peacefully and not suffer a cruel and painful death. It's hard and it hurts. You did what was best for that cat and that is more than anyone could ask.

Yes, you are right. The vet told me that he would probably have gotten hit by a car or something else because he was so weak. So I feel good that I was able to keep him from some tragic, painful death. And I know that he is in a better place. I guess it's just that feeling. You guys know what I mean, that ache that makes us hurt for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Thanks for all the support you guys.

He had the nicest gift given to him of all, the gift of love and the gift of not suffering! Imagine on if he would still be out there, sicker than ever with no one to have pity enough to let him go easily! You did the best thing for him, even if its the hardest thing for you!

I've only once in my life had to make the decision to have a pet PTS, and while I know that in some circumstances it's the best thing, it is the hardest decision I think anybody ever has to make. And being so surrounded by loss... Nobody can blame you for being emotional.

I'm sorry that you had this experience, and that you lost both Lyndsey and Tiger. So difficult...
