Samson, our 6 month Maine Coon, has some red gums. (we noticed a tiny bit of blood when he chewed on our white sock covered foot) And his breath is pretty stinky.

I was wondering if he could be teething, so I googled and it looks like cats do teeth!

So could this explain the red gums and bad breath?

Is there anything we should do for him?

Six months is right about when they start losing their baby teeth. I noticed with all three of my girls, that their gums would get very red, and bleed, right before they lost their teeth. However, only Lola had a stinky breath problem during that time. Since he's getting to be the age where you should consider neutering, it probably wouldn't hurt to have his teeth looked at when he's in for his neutering (although it probably is just teething, and nothing to worry about!)

My kitten has had terrible breath whenever her gums were inflamed from teething too!

Well, I'm glad to hear Samson is normal then...
I was worried he was just a super stinky kitten!

How long does it usually last?
