Hi i am a design student and currently designing a GPS data puller cat collar so all those lost and stolen kittys can be found out there.

I am currently doing some research into the size the collar needs to be. Unfortunatly i cannot make the collar fully adjustable since the wiring runs through the collar to distribute the weight evenly. The collar will also have a safety clasp which with open when a certain amount of pressure is exerted on it plus it can easily be found when it comes off because of the tracking system incorprated into it.

So i need everyone who owns a cat to take a piece of ribbon and measure the circumference of their cats neck i will also need to know the age of the cat too.

Please help me out on this the more information i collect the more efficient the design will be.

Many thanks

What is the time limit that you need these?

Well, I got two out of three. Cindy and Fawn are 6 years old, each within ounces of 10 lbs -- Cindy's neck is 10.5 inches, Fawn's 10. Suzy is 8 and of much the same size as the others, but at the best of times not very cooperative about being confined for long enough to measure anything, so we may never get that measurement.

Oh joy, that was fun! The cats really enjoyed that, I had one dangling off each end of the ribbon for a while, and when I got out the tape measure, mayhem ensued!

Radar, male, 18 months old, 8lbs, neck 8 inches.
Sonic, male, 12 months old, approximately 9-10lbs, neck 7 1/2 inches.

I would imagine that there's quite a huge difference between the slender Oriental types like mine and the butch Maine Coone/NFC types! I can already see from the few posts that mine have a smaller neck to weight ratio than others.

Princess is 12.5 years old weighs 13.2 lbs and wears a 10 inch collar. (She's got a small head/neck, a longer body and a big belly.)

Patsy is 12 years old, weighs 12.1 lbs and wears a 10.5 collar.(Patsy is short and fat.)

I will try to measure the others tomorrow, if they cooperate. They are stray and feral so I can't make any promises.

Sorry can't help you. My Limerick always gets collars caught in his lower jaw. Try to design one that won't do that.

Here and there
Loki is nearly 3, he's about 13 lbs., and his neck circumference is 9 in.

Possum is 2, he's about 9 lbs., and his neck circumference is 8 in.

Good luck!
