The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0019254/

What does the closet of a mental institution contain? Clothes, books, MP3 players, and copies of obscure French movies from the 1920's. This film was rediscovered in one, and trust me the world is a better place because of it. Rarely does a movie come along that is so moving, so disturbing, and so passionate in the same breath. The director wanted it to be a documentary style of what happened during the trial of St. Joan of Arc, and he succeeded. We see her range of emotions from a defiant 19 year old girl, to a scared and frightened peasant that doesn't really know what's going on. If you are even remotely interested in the history of film or the history of England and France please pick this film up and give it a go. It's wonderful.

BTW, I gave "So Bad It's Good" a break to watch this movie.

It's obviously a very good movie, but of the three Carl Theodor Dreyer movies that I've seen (The Passion of Joan of Arc, Ordet, and Day of Wrath), I think my favorite if Ordet.
