Would you pay $22k-$28k for a Cat?

And to answer the question, no, I would not pay that kind of money for one pet. I would prefer to spend my money on humane society donations and adopt homeless strays or shelter kitties.

If I had that much money....sure! Just as long as it lived for 100 years and that money wasn't pure profit...that some went to a foundation.

At that price, it becomes merely a possession. I'd rather have a pet, thanks, even if I did have that kind of money to spend. There are plenty to be had in shelters, which I'm sure would be delighted to have those $$.

No, I wouldn't. To me there is no difference between a $28,000 cat and one that I can adopt at a local shelter.

Never. I have never paid for a cat but wouldn't mind paying for a rescue group's kitty.

That to me seems horrible. . . If I had that kind of money to spend on an animal I would adopt a shelter cat, and donate the rest of it to the shelter. . .

I don't think you'd find anyone here stupid enough (or rich enough!) to pay that kind of money for a pet. You can get a lifelong companion from a shelter and save its life, and if you really want a specific purebred, you can get one for $1000 or so and be assured to have a wonderful, socialised kitty.

Remind me again why it is worth that much!!!! That's more than 3 of my cars are worth! NO WAY!!!!!

As beautiful as it may be...or no matter how much I would LOVE to have one of the Bengal cats...I will not pay for a cat or kitten other than the $35 or $40 the shelter charges.

Even if I could afford it I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a cat. That cat is also a hybrid of two cats from the wild rather than a domestic and a wild cat. I don't want to get into a discussion about keeping a cat from the wild as a pet, to each their own. I think a lot of people that do have the money and think their unique will get one without realizing the special care they will need. They will think that it is just a large unique looking domestic cat.

UMMM no .. I would give the money to the shelters ...

all three of my cats were free. either given to me or wandered into my yard and into my heart.

they purr, head butt, arch thier backs when I pet them.

I bet I get the same love from my "freebie kitties" than the big $$$ cats.

they're all living beings, they all need love, and no, I wouldn't encourage some greedy people to breed for money.

Well.... I did inquire about the Savannah in the breeder's section and this breed seems to stem off of the Serval line w/ the Savannah which range up to $10,000 or so, depending on what generation.

I would fork out a few thousand but not 5 digits. If I ever do... that means I have money to spare for the shelters as well

I was scrounging around trying to figure out where to come up with the extra money to have the new stray neutered!

No i wouldn't. If i had that kind of money though- i would donate every penny of it to the shelter where i work to invest in an even better environment/conditions for all of our animals and to expand the shelter. The more room we have -the more animals we can take in and help and the more lives that are saved. Right now we are trying to raise money for new dog beds for all of the dog kennels so that everyone has a nice warm bed for the winter- i would also LOVE to expand the kitty cages into full condos so that they have lots and lots of room! Also the more money the shelter gets- the more spay/neuter surgeries we can do and once again- that saves lives! I would love to spend some of that on education too - the more people learn about responsible pet ownership- the more everyone benifits! It would also be great to be able to have a room JUST for puppies/ kittens and pregnant/nursing mommys so that they are kept away from the other animals that come in and out and are not exposed to certain illnesses/etc while they're soo young. If i had that kind of money- that's what i would love to do with it!

Amen, Nikki. I can't imagine how people justify this kind of thing. Sure, it's a gorgeous creature -- but no more gorgeous than half the kitties at the shelter, or the stray I glimpsed in our yard the other day.

But that's beside the point. The real problem is that these poor cats are being bred to serve the egos of the rich, who will buy them (not adopt, but buy) as status symbols and conversation pieces... while shelter kitties get euthanized. It makes me sick.
