My 5 month old kitten, Cali, passes gas ALL DAY LONG and it it smells up the ENTIRE house. We need to open the windows for at least 10 minutes after the event. She is also having to go to the bathroom all day long. The litter needs to be cleaned out as soon as she has a bowel movement because it also skinks up the home. I would REALLY like ANY ideas on how to keep Cali from stinking. My family (and our noses) would appriciate any help. Thank-you.

Has she been vet checked and dewormed? Maybe she's got an intestinal parasite. You might want to start there.

If she doesn't have a parasite, then maybe her current food isn't agreeing with her tummy...if she has that much gas, it's got to be uncomfortable for her. Is she getting good quality food geared towards kittens? What about food she gets given besides kitten food...kitten tummies are really sensitive, so you would want to cut out any "people food" you might be feeding her. Also, although you may already know, cats shouldn't be given milk...it's actually hard for them to digest.

I hope she feels better soon!

I don't think she has a parasite. She has had bad gas since we have had her and she was tested for worms but the test came back negitive. Both the canned and dry food we give her are made for kittens. Our 6 month old kitten doesn't have any smelly problems and they do eveything the same. We don't give either of our kittens any human food or drinks (just a piece of ice everyday). But thank-you for the advice.

When Abby came to us she also had this problem. The vet said it was worms along with change of food from the shelter. We put her on a different dry food and the problem eventually went away. What type of food are you feeding her?

If it's not worms then your cat may just have gastrointestinal disorder. My cat use to get gas all the time and soft stools too. The Vet had her tested for many things including blood test. The vet gave me Hill's prescription I/D then I slowly transition her to California Natural chicken and brown rice and she has been doing well ever since. I didn't stay on Hill's because of the by-products and corn, if you are wondering.

You might need to look into better food that is easier to digest. I've put my cats on Felidae and they wouldn't even touch it but they ate the California Natural so I'm happy or else I would need to look into Pinnacle.
