When I was in Cedar Rapids, IA there was a neighborhood sort of car repair place and the coe-owner was AWESOME with VW's. I took it to him all the time because he was so good to me and he knew what he was doing. I'm thinking about taking the hour long trip up there, just so I can have him work on it if something big needs done.

We usually take it to the dealership. With my last car we hadn't bought it from a dealership, so I just called my personal mechanic - My Step-Dad!

I have a warantee, so I go to the dealer. In fact, just yesterday they replaced my battery for free (of course if the one they put in this April wasn't defective...

As long as a vehicle is under warranty, it goes to the dealer. It's a very long time since we've had a vehicle under warranty, though. If it's something Rob can do without too much fuss, he does. Otherwise, it's chains -- Mr Lube for oil changes and assorted other under-the-hood stuff; Canadian Tire for other work; dealership only when those guys can't do it. It's true that many of those places will do more than is necessary, which is why I'm grateful that Rob knows enough about what's realistic to be able to say
Nooooooooo, I don't think so

The fiance and I do it ourselves. I don't trust any chains, and it's hard to come by a decent, honest mechanic these days (and we're both into automotive anyway). My dad actually had some customers of his shop move to NC when he moved! They still ask him to work on his car now!

I wish B would.
I'm completely stupid when it comes to cars (despite my brother being a car mechanic when I was in high school). I always hoped that I would find a guy that would take care of all that stuff.

I use to take mine to the car dealer, but then I was told that they WAY overcharge, so I started taking it to a locally owned chain.

Now I don't know where to take it

Same here. . . I dont trust anyone buy us to touch our cars. I dont thing there is an engine component that I have not touched. . . I love working on them too so its all good! Its SO much cheaper to do yourself too!
