My 14 month old male cat has started to knock over his auto dispensing water dish (the jug kind) in the last 2 months. I have had the water dispenser for longer than the cat. He's grown up with it and I never had problems till recently. Now he knocks it over every chance he gets especially when I've just filled it. Not only does it make a huge mess, but having to refill it multiple times a day gets incredibly irritating. The water dish is sort of in an out of the way place for me so I never seem to be able to catch him in the act and I am usually alerted that he may have done it again because my other cat starts to beg for water.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can stop him from doing this?
I've heard that some people put something heavy on top of the water jug, but I'm afraid that he might still be able to knock it over. He's pretty strong and rambunctious and can be quite determined at times.
