Pet Food Manufacturer Destroys Evidence
KSBY - 3 hours ago
Jay Edelson, an attorney, stated in court, "We believe that Menu Foods, and I state this publicly, is destroying some of the pet food that has been recalled. We think that's critical evidence of the case and we think that it's illegal for them to ...

I hope I put this in the right place.

Chinese government discusses pet food recall for first time
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a.../1002/BUSINESS

"Xuzhou Anying produces and exports more than 10,000 tons of wheat gluten a year, according to its Web site. But only 873 tons were linked to tainted U.S. pet food, raising the possibility that more of the contaminated product could still be on the market in China, or abroad."
Only 873 tons were linked to tainted U.S. pet food..ONLY..... only?...this could be lots bigger then has been released. I would check ingreadients and not feed anything that contains wheat gluten

Is anyone else still using the new gourmet Fancy Feasts (garden variety, etc)?

The ingredients list wheat gluten, but the Purina sites including the specifc FF site claims no recall or concerns.

I had been using the FF as a treat a few times a week, and just single cans split among 5 cats. No effects to report.

I am sticking primarily with Hill's wet and dry, just ordered Natural Balance as well for variety (a few of my cats get super bored).

A friend recommended Sheba -- any comments? I like to offer wet a few times a week for added hydration and uti/crystal maintainence.

NEVERMIND--JUST FOUND THREAD ON THIS (SORRY)

I wouldn't trust that we are getting the entire story from the Chinese government, either.

With the updated list of foods, my cats have been fed half a case of the bad stuff. We've always fed Iams, thinking it was a high quality food. Apparently, it's not a whole lot different than anything else. My cats, thankfully, are okay, but I am not thrilled at this new information.

We are now feeding Wellness. It's very expensive, about $1.20 a can, but worth the peace of mind, and the boys love it. They will get Wellness for the rest of their lives.

Pet food adulterated on purpose. Horrible that this might be true. Even then, they really don't seem sure that this is the cause of the problem.
When I read that article, it sounded to me like this was simply one THEORY being looked at by the FDA. I am glad the FDA is considering it, and researching it fully!
But at this point there seems to be no evidence that this is the cause.
