How would they know? It's clear from this disaster that they don't routinely test either their raw ingredients or their finished product. Their foods may be "safe" from whatever contaminant was in them that sparked the latest wave of pet deaths and the massive recall, but they won't be safe going forward unless routine, widespread and thorough testing is implement to ensure their foods are contaminant free.

Why would we assume everything else should be fine? Are they testing everything else? Are they thoroughly testing all of their other ingredients for contamination? Are they testing their manufactured product for contamination? If they aren't, there's no reason to assume their product isn't just as deadly today as it was a few weeks ago.

If the wheat gluten could be so badly contaminated it kills cats who are fed food containing just small amounts of it, any of their other ingredients could be equally contaminated (or worse). The initial lab tests from two weeks ago showed the food contained rat poison. Now the FDA says the food contains the plastic Melamine. What other contaminants are in their food? And what are they doing to prevent this from ever happening again?

The FDA is testing the recalled foods ...

Right now I am avoiding ALL Menu foods items and anything with WHEAT gluten as it seems to be the culprit ..

hopefully now canned food ingrediants will be single ingrediant and batch tested similiar to how some companies do there dry.... i dont trust the FDA as they cant regulate human stuff well...but at this time they are the governing party and hopefully will get to the bottom of this

So far the contaminates found ARE NOT currently tested for
If you are concerned I would recommend talking with your vet...

Should I also bring him to the vet to make sure he's OK and no damage has been done?

Help me out here.
I feed my cats Hills too - c/d, dental and sensitive stomach. Their website says only the m/d dry is affected, as there's no wheat gluten in the others.
I'm prepared to trust Hills as they seem to be a reputable company and have voluntarily recalled these foods as a precaution.
I am going to be vigilant about the signs of kidney failure and any other signs of failing health.
Otherwise, I just don't know what to feed my cats!

The FDA is apparently working to determine if human food is tainted by melamine as well, according to an MSNBC article. A friend told me a few minutes ago ABC News announced that melamine has been found in human food, but I can't find any links to the news on their website.

The taint spreads . . .

Thanks for your help on this. Its obvious that the food isn't poisioned. I bought a very large bag of Hill's long before the recall news and if it was poisioned, I would have found out by now. But I am concerned about the kidney and liver failure things, what signs do I look out for? Also, Pepper is FIV+ to begin with, so its hard to tell whether its the food or his disease that has caused this.

For anyone feeding their pets Purina products, they have an extremely good expanded FAQ on their site. They answer a lot of questions in a direct manner. Although some of you may not agree with some of their answers, at least they are making the information available for the consumers to make up their own decisions.

OMG The Dingo ones have Salmonella.

I wish the FDA would make one list off all the recalled foods and treats.

Sorry but this post is wrong. Under U.S. law animals are considered "property" and you cannot collect for emotional damages stemming from wrongful death. Joining a class-action lawsuit will cost you much, much, much less money and the results will likely be the same.
